President Joe Biden on Tuesday said that the United States will impose sanctions “far beyond” the ones that the United States imposed in 2014 following the annexation of the Crimean peninsula.

“This is the beginning of a Russian invasion of Ukraine,” Biden said in a White House speech, signaling a shift in his administration’s position. “We will continue to escalate sanctions if Russia escalates,” he added.

Russian elites and their family members will also soon face sanctions, Biden said, adding that “Russia will pay an even steeper price” if Moscow decides to push forward into Ukraine. Two Russian banks and Russian sovereign debt will also be sanctioned, he said.

Also in his speech, Biden said he would send more U.S. troops to the Baltic states as a defensive measure to strengthen NATO’s position in the area.

Russia shares a border with Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.

A day earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered troops to go into the separatist Donetsk and Lugansk regions in eastern Ukraine after a lengthy speech in which he recognized the two regions’ independence.

Western powers decried the move and began to slap sanctions on certain Russian individuals, while Germany announced it would halt plans to go ahead with the Russia-to-Germany Nord Stream 2 pipeline.

At home, Biden is facing bipartisan pressure to take more extensive actions against Russia following Putin’s decision. However, a recent poll showed that a majority of Americans believe that sending troops to Ukraine is a “bad idea,” and a slim minority believes it’s a good one.

All 27 European Union countries unanimously agreed on an initial list of sanctions targeting Russian authorities, said French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, and EU foreign affairs head Josep Borell claimed the package “will hurt Russia … a lot.”

Earlier Tuesday, Borell asserted that Russian troops have already entered the Donbas region, which comprises Donetsk and Lugansk, which are under the control of pro-Russia groups since 2014.

And on Tuesday, the Russian Parliament approved a Putin-back plan to use military force outside of Russia’s borders as Putin further said that Russia confirmed it would recognize the expanded borders of Lugansk and Donetsk.

“We recognized the states,” the Russian president said. “That means we recognized all of their fundamental documents, including the constitution, where it is written that their [borders] are the territories at the time the two regions were part of Ukraine.”

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Putin said that Ukraine is “not interested in peaceful solutions” and that “every day, they are amassing troops in the Donbas.”

Meanwhile, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday morning again downplayed the prospect of a Russian invasion and proclaimed: “There will be no war.”

“There will not be an all-out war against Ukraine, and there will not be a broad escalation from Russia. If there is, then we will put Ukraine on a war footing,” he said in a televised address.

The White House began to signal that they would shift their own position on whether it’s the start of an invasion.

“We think this is, yes, the beginning of an invasion, Russia’s latest invasion into Ukraine,” said Jon Finer, the White House deputy national security adviser in public remarks. “An invasion is an invasion and that is what is underway.”

For weeks, Western governments have been claiming Moscow would invade its neighbor after Russia gathered some 150,000 troops along the countries’ borders. They alleged that the Kremlin would attempt to come up with a pretext to attack, while some officials on Monday said Putin’s speech recognizing the two regions was just that.

But Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin told reporters Tuesday that Russia’s “latest invasion” of Ukraine is threatening stability in the region, but he asserted that Putin can “still avoid a full blown, tragic war of choice.”

Supposedly intercepted conversation between Russian officers, they're talking about destroying their own equipment, with the person calling saying that he already reported it to command and that they're waiting for confirmation (photos and such)
Seem to be talking about artillery, and they're actually struggling with blowing it up somehow (mortars bounce off, apparently), and they discuss sinking it in the river. This is either to claim that they're not combat effective anymore, or to claim that it's actually Ukrainian equipment, not clear to me.
The superior officers complains about being fucked by his higher-ups and asks the other one to hurry up with whatever they're doing, sounds frustrated

Doesn't Russia have thermite, thermate or some other incendiary grenades in their inventory? Cause if one needs to "destroyed" their own hardware that's usually what it used to do it.
If it's to make it look like Ukrainians did it, it would have to be something that Ukrainians also have. I dunno.

Predictable response from the Kremlin: https://www.reuters.com/world/europ...ot-creates-awkward-backdrop-talks-2022-04-01/
The sheer gall to say this sort of shit while they've been shelling Ukrainian cities for over a fucking month now, and haven't stopped even after the last talks, or DURING them
Fucking bastards.

They likely had the script for their response to the attack written before the attack, it's obvious that it's a falsa flag, otherwise Russia is even more incompetent then already show, if two helis can go in, over the front lines, attack and dissappear then Russian military are blind and deaf on top of retarded or they specifically let it happen/did it themselves.

Russia is so full of shit it should be classified as a septic tank.

IMHO, Russians have burned their own frigates to hide amount of theft and sitting on top of a fuel depot is like sitting on top of a gold mine and try to resist not grab some flakes for yourself. Ukraine also had a few fires at their ammo and equipment supplies before the invasion some years back.

Also, 5 or may be even 10 ago, there was a story about the bribe needed to get a job as a cleaner in customs, at port of Vladivostok. It was 100'000$. I don't know what a cleaner can do to have a job that could potentially recoup the bribe, smuggle drugs somehow? But that's just the extent of how much corruption took hold.

From a quick glance, some other developing stories:

Russians left Chernobyl zone completely looting a small hotel in the area used for staff and visitors, taking spoons, forks and dinnerware. Their irradiated comrades are in isolation at the Gomel clinic, glowing as fuck and a special team from Russia suppose to arrive sometimes soon. They are most likely beyond help at this point. Still waiting on reports, vids what did actually happen there. No info so far.

The response to fire in Belgorod have been dramatic, huge lines at gas stations, a lot of people are suddenly interested what's going on with war in Ukraine (less than 50mi from the border) Lots of comments on public forums all over the spectrum. Some people are leaving the city but no major conjestion yet. I've no idea how hard it is to blow up those things from the ground or how well they are guarded, I'd not exclude the chance that a saboteur group could also do it.

Even with everything we've seen so far how in the absolute fuck does Russian air defense slip up this badly?
Assuming it's real, it wouldn't be that surprising. Most of Russia's defenses on their own soil are longer ranged SAMs designed to counter airstrikes by planes, the counter to that has always been low flying helis. For instance in Desert Storm the Iraqis had one of the largest and most complete air defence networks in the world, and a couple of Apache squadrons literally flew close enough to their critical radars that they ended up strafing the area with fucking 30mm cannon fire.

Fires in Russian ammo depots are all too common, not a year passes I didn't hear about one in the news

Regarding looting, Ukrainians caught this VDV nigger:

"Elite" my ass, all the same vodka-drinking, fountain-swimming, student-beating gopnik faggots.

Some info regarding the biggest cargo plane in the world that got destroyed. The only new thing I've learned is that company in charge of it was offered by Germany to relocate these planes to their territory.
Their director refused said offer for some reason, and when shit hit the fan... he relocated himself. To Germany. So they fired him.

Would have been even more insane for me if he reference Moviebob.

Honselty at this point I am continuing been amazed on how much Russia really sucks and how even they believed in "Russia is badass" memes.
Well it's not that far out of the realm of possibility given that just a week ago he literally compared himself to JK Rowling and complained that the West was trying to cancel him.

Found the footage of the strike itself

I'm leaning more toward false flag at this point, Ukraine doesn't gain much by doing this, only giving Russian propaganda ammo to justify further escalation. It would be a very Russian thing to do.
I don't know though, hitting a large fuel depot near the front line does make sense as a Ukrainian target and one would think if Russia was going to hit something as a false flag and then claim Jewish Azov Nazis did it it'd be something symbolic that doesn't have much effect on the actual war effort like their own civilians or a WW2 memorial. If it's a false flag Russia has proven its too incompetent to do even that believably.

I'd imagine they'd still have some SHORAD around like Pantsirs, Tunguskas, or even Shilkas that are supposed to hard counter this though. Then again the only one I've even seen has been an abandoned Pantsir with rotted tires and they've been getting droned with near impunity considering they're supposed to have air superiority so who even knows.

That's hilarious, I just had a nice tasty shawarma at Papa Grill today for lunch. I don't think there's Papa Grill in hell, it's good to know he'll never taste it again. Rest in piss, fucking piece of shit.

Everything I've heard about russia makes me believe it's effectively lawless.

Fixed it for you.

None of those clothes look especially expensive, they look like shit that I could find on a hanger at ROSS. Who the fuck would pay $2,500 for a parka? It's not even leather, it's a winter track suit.

According to media sources that jacket costs more than 11K.

for what it worth, not everyone sees those retired shitheads as heroes in the burgerland. I've spoken.

I have not seen this mentioned in this thread, but Russians are pulling out of Chernobyl, literally leaving the site and surrounding area. There are a lot or articles on this.

one nuance, less mentioned, supposedly they have been digging trenches in surrounding woods ... can't see any non ukrainian sources mention it. However, it seems like some soldiers got severe case or radiation sickness, so much that they were evac straight to Belarus institute of radiology, and that sounds to me that they may be contaminated big time, hence moving them to a facility where they could be effectively isolated. I don't think RF are worried about their lives, but want to keep this downlow and under control.

Here is the thing. I watched a lot of vids of dudes going to Chernobyl exclusion zone, it's actually a passtime for a lot of people and lots of vids on it. It's not as bad as people think, some areas aren't great, but you can legit go there a lot and get hardly fucked. There are expensive tests that could be done on your exposure and some dudes that went there did them and were OK. They do bring dozimeters with them and monitor radiation as they go along, but they fucking go to places I'd never dare to, like vehicle graveyards and under the fucking reactor that blew up. Seriously, it's fucking crazy.

This all makes me wander WTF did the russians do to get exposed so badly. I wander if they were up to any shenenigans with storage of nuke waste onsite or tried to pull some weird shit like boobietrap/mine something in there. That's the real question.

Just digging trenches to the Chernobyl area is enough to cause radiation sickness.

What would Ukraine gain by sending two of their attack helicopters to almost certain suicide-mission? It's just too unbelievable that Russian air-defenses would be this bad.

It's just too unbelievable that Russian air-defenses would be this bad.
What exactly about their performance so far would make it unbelieveable their air defences are this bad? I mean a quarter of the mobile SAMs they've lost have been to the very fucking drones they're supposed to be protecting against.

I have to humbly eat crow: I didn't think Ukraine had a snowball's chance in Hell of lasting. I wasn't counting on Russians being as colossally retarded as this.
Understandable. The myth of "Invincible Russian Horde" has engrained so much in people's subconsciousness worldwide it's hard to accept the reality that Russia's military is as weak as this. There are still lots of people who won't accept that yet, unfortunately. Even my father still believe it despite my best efforts to explain the truth
