Corporations like this usually have an attorney or law firm on retainer. They don't need to go get a lawyer because the lawyer is just paid to do legal work for them. This is the case for many companies which is why you sometimes hear about overzealous lawyers for companies filing DMCA takedown requests and the company itself going out of their way to reverse it. The lawyers will sometimes take actions on their own to make themselves look important so the company keeps paying them.

In this case it would be nothing to just fire an email to whatever law firm they have to do their bidding.

Good point, but Null has valiantly (I mean that) stood up to such bullshit before plenty of times. This isn't just trying to get Kiwifarms canceled, it's trying to use the weight of the legal system to take it down and presumably get access to the data.
Quite the retard gamble because no sane admin would give up their servers without a court order. So when the inevitable happens and someone asks for the court order you better have a good reason for not being able to present it.
