Censorship has always been an integral part of the media machine. The Hays Code was made at a time of normie religious moral outrage when masculine displays of authority were respected. When conditions changed post WW2 and degeneracy set in, resistance against stuffed-shirt authority was the new fad and the normies of the time ate it up. The Hays Code crumbled in the late 60s. I agree in a sense and disagree in another. I don't like censorship and stifling creativity, but at the same I'm all for shutting down idiocy like this. On the other hand, while I'm personally in favor of having a higher standard of morality, the Hays Code went a little overboard in some areas. I wouldn't have zombie movies with objectively good heroes fighting off the undead violently if it was in place. Plus by the 60s it was already getting subverted anyway as Hollywood got more and more cultish and communistic. It didn't work in the end.
