At least where I live they're a normal part of the ecosystem, no one really likes them but no one really cares. And no one thinks they're women. They're seen as effeminate homosexual men or as their own thing. They're commonly prostitutes.

In 2021 57 trannies and gender nonconforming people met violent death in the US. Out about 1.3 millions of people who identify as trans. Which is roughly 4.38 per 100 thousand, compare that with the US homicide rate of 4.96 per 100 thousands. So troons are less likely to be murder than the average man.
