I was never under the impression that Russia wanted to "take all of Ukraine" or get bogged down in urban warfare in the cities when they only wanted to ensure that the coast from Crimea to liberated Donbas were in safe hands.

I suspected just sitting a convoy on the main highway to the north of Kiev was pretty smart because it split the Ukrainian ground forces and diverted them from the main push in Eastern Ukraine.

edit: Also, it made Zelensky squeal like a bitch and forbid all males of fighting age to leave the country and told all of his citizens to make molotov cocktails as a family activity and force supermodels to make tiktok videos with themselves in war gear.

Wanting all of ukraine or not, it's very likely they actualy thought they would take kevin in 72hours believing in the western fearmongering propaganda made about them.
The "Distraction" theory will be confirmed or not if this actually helps them in the future, which is unlikely.

RAF airstrike against the HQ of the Ukrainian 24th mechanized brigade. Since it has apparently been claimed that the Russians ran out of jet fuel around March 3rd, they must have found a way to fuel them with pure hopium. It should be noted that we're now seeing video of the RAF operating in daylight, where they were previously only operating at night to mitigate anti-air defenses. This would indicate that in the past few weeks they've made a lot of progress in destroying Ukrainian AA.

We've had video of the Russian air force operating in daylight since early March.

Flying at night does nothing against radar AA. Flying at night prevents being visually acquired which makes the use of MANPADs difficult.

This was the offer on the table before the invasion and it still is. Now they're settling on the Cyprus solution, create a puppet state in the east which will act as a buffer zone against NATO and declare victory.

That is useless. The whole point of Ukraine as a buffer state is the chokepoint created by the Carpathian mountains in the west.
An entirely neutral Ukraine provides a natural chokepoint against NATO invasion. A split Ukraine with the west aligned with NATO still denies Russia this convinient chokepoint that makes their defense easier.
An eastern puppet state would not serve as a buffer against NATO, but it would deny an invading force the use of the sea of Azov.

Despite Russias demands being known before the war started and despite them not changing, what Putin really wants is to rebuild the USSR and this is his first attempt at it and he wants all of Ukraine. Sorry his second attempt since in 2008 he absorbed Georgia when he invaded them. Don't you remember?

New York, Donetsk Oblast is an interesting place. Well, it's technically not named New York anymore, the Ukrainians renamed it to Novhorodske last year. That was the old Soviet name, now it's the original name which was derived from German Mennonite settlers who originally founded the town.
