President Joe Biden on Tuesday said that the United States will impose sanctions “far beyond” the ones that the United States imposed in 2014 following the annexation of the Crimean peninsula.

“This is the beginning of a Russian invasion of Ukraine,” Biden said in a White House speech, signaling a shift in his administration’s position. “We will continue to escalate sanctions if Russia escalates,” he added.

Russian elites and their family members will also soon face sanctions, Biden said, adding that “Russia will pay an even steeper price” if Moscow decides to push forward into Ukraine. Two Russian banks and Russian sovereign debt will also be sanctioned, he said.

Also in his speech, Biden said he would send more U.S. troops to the Baltic states as a defensive measure to strengthen NATO’s position in the area.

Russia shares a border with Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.

A day earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered troops to go into the separatist Donetsk and Lugansk regions in eastern Ukraine after a lengthy speech in which he recognized the two regions’ independence.

Western powers decried the move and began to slap sanctions on certain Russian individuals, while Germany announced it would halt plans to go ahead with the Russia-to-Germany Nord Stream 2 pipeline.

At home, Biden is facing bipartisan pressure to take more extensive actions against Russia following Putin’s decision. However, a recent poll showed that a majority of Americans believe that sending troops to Ukraine is a “bad idea,” and a slim minority believes it’s a good one.

All 27 European Union countries unanimously agreed on an initial list of sanctions targeting Russian authorities, said French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, and EU foreign affairs head Josep Borell claimed the package “will hurt Russia … a lot.”

Earlier Tuesday, Borell asserted that Russian troops have already entered the Donbas region, which comprises Donetsk and Lugansk, which are under the control of pro-Russia groups since 2014.

And on Tuesday, the Russian Parliament approved a Putin-back plan to use military force outside of Russia’s borders as Putin further said that Russia confirmed it would recognize the expanded borders of Lugansk and Donetsk.

“We recognized the states,” the Russian president said. “That means we recognized all of their fundamental documents, including the constitution, where it is written that their [borders] are the territories at the time the two regions were part of Ukraine.”

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Putin said that Ukraine is “not interested in peaceful solutions” and that “every day, they are amassing troops in the Donbas.”

Meanwhile, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday morning again downplayed the prospect of a Russian invasion and proclaimed: “There will be no war.”

“There will not be an all-out war against Ukraine, and there will not be a broad escalation from Russia. If there is, then we will put Ukraine on a war footing,” he said in a televised address.

The White House began to signal that they would shift their own position on whether it’s the start of an invasion.

“We think this is, yes, the beginning of an invasion, Russia’s latest invasion into Ukraine,” said Jon Finer, the White House deputy national security adviser in public remarks. “An invasion is an invasion and that is what is underway.”

For weeks, Western governments have been claiming Moscow would invade its neighbor after Russia gathered some 150,000 troops along the countries’ borders. They alleged that the Kremlin would attempt to come up with a pretext to attack, while some officials on Monday said Putin’s speech recognizing the two regions was just that.

But Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin told reporters Tuesday that Russia’s “latest invasion” of Ukraine is threatening stability in the region, but he asserted that Putin can “still avoid a full blown, tragic war of choice.”

Starstreaks missile head is fucking tungsten why? Because fuck you. It's not at all surprising the helicopter folded itself in two and broke apart when basically walloped by a 15kg shaped tungsten round. Shit aint surviving that.
Probably because they took the claims of Russian gunships being armored flying tanks at complete face value and built something completely overkill for it. And if that isn't a microcosm of Western defense to Russia for the past few decades at this point...

inb4 Pravda.ru and The Moscow Times are secrets NATO shills staffed by Azov Battalion PR reps.

The guy who went on a shooting spree and facing the death penalty for killing 8 people...he is the guy we're going to believe?

Not saying the guy wasn't raped in some hazing incident, it's certainly possible. But if anybody has a reason to lie it's the guy on trial for murdering 8 people. It also doesn't mean it is systemic, any more than someone being raped at a frat party in Harvard means Harvard has institutionalized the rape of undergrads lol

Im not disagreeing that Putin definitely fucked things up, im just saying despite the immense damage he is still more usefull, just A LOT LESS USEFULL than he used to be. not happy about this war to be honest.

How useful is a dictator whose "army" rapes and kills 10 y.o. girls?

Putin fostered x-Soviet traditions of degeneracy and depravity. It's the same army that did exactly the same things in Chechnya 20 years ago.

Russia, at this point, is a gas station, and they don't even pump their own gas. Companies like Haliburton actually research and develop oil and gas fields, extract them using latest Western tech because it's cheaper than whatever Russia has. Russia no longer even makes all the parts to oil drilling equipment. They are basically a bunch niggers sitting on top of land they took from Eastern tribes.

There are a lot of tyrants who less bloody and rapey. I hope that Russians find one soon (because it sounds like they have to have a tyrant no matter what)

Every Russian studies history in school for years, but now so many of them eating up the Z bullshit like there's no tomorrow. Disgusting. They should know better.

Well, it's a "history" where Winter War was a provoked self defense and Soviet-Nazi treaties are illegal to speak about. Also, many archives on WWII are classified to this day.

The StarStreak missiles reaches over Mach 4.

I'm not a rocket engineer, but that is fucking fast and one of the issues they have had developing hypersonics is dealing with the pressure and speed of achieving those speeds within the atmosphere. According to Wikipedia hypersonics are Mach 5 and above, however I would hazard a guess that at Mach 4 the heat and pressure that these missiles need to be able to withstand to work consistently is probably fairly intense. Hence, they would resort to these sorts of materials.

Plus, it's future proofing. The actual projectile itself will crack a helicopter in two, no problems with that going forward, that means all you need to do to keep this thing up to date and in service is to improve the guidance system. Imagine this shit with AI where you simply point to a target on a iPad and then the algorithm keeps the laser pointer on the target - shit you could shoot down all sorts of fancy low altitude aircraft doing that, especially if since as this is laser guided, counter-measures and warning systems are not going to work. Light armoured vehicles with these things mounted would make mincemeat of helicopters and even fast jets if the guidance system could be further automated. You could just have a portable station with an ipad connected to a mounting that you place within areas you expect enemy aircraft.

Naw, I was taught about all the shit ups and all possible fuck ups. Where Soviets were bullshitting our teacher was there to highlight that, and where the army made something good he also showed that as well.
Though, commie-fags shouldn't be teaching, I heard some had to deal with them and they tend to butcher history hard. But many students go to unis/colledges and most have history classes there again.

I mean I can understand that line of thinking, however I've seen enough photos of Russian soldiers with cocks in their mouths to think he's not lying. I think someone posted a bunch of them in the original Happenings thread.

Envy is part of their national identity, and they confuse it with pride. So their method of staying superior to others is dragging them down to their level and then stomping them into the mud.
Ukraine I remember is neat and clean, because they actually care.
Ironically, Russians generally don't regard space outside of their apartment/house as their home and don't mind shitting it up. Every day I pass under the windows where people throw out cigarette butts after finishing smoking, so in the spring as snow retreats there's a harvest of cigarette butts, thousands of them. They litter a lot, very selfish people.

You've thrown me for a loop, at first I thought you meant actual penguins as a joke, but then went to check if there's a weapon with such a name but couldn't find anything.
Well, if all else fails, literal penguins would probably be at least as effective on the battlefield as your average Russian conscript.

You're unlikely to hear something new, but video description has links to subject material, if you're so inclined.

Bonus for muh greenscreen fags:
Pay attention to the expressions on the faces of these men. Zelenskyy also shits on Merkel and other leaders of NATO member countries who prevented Ukraine from joining the alliance, which ultimately resulted in this mess.
Considering I can't stand Merkel. I'm all for this.

Ukraine says Russian troops preparing a big attack in the east

Russian troops are preparing for a big attack in the Lugansk region of eastern Ukraine, the local governor Sergiy Gaiday said on Telegram Monday.

“We see that equipment is coming from different directions, they are bringing manpower, they are bringing fuel,” Gaiday said in a video statement.

“We understand that they are preparing for a full-scale big breakthrough,” he added.

No surprise, the question is if they can actually maintain any kind of thrust. Chances are it's going to end badly for them.

Ah, they're finally going to fight a war in a way that makes sense instead of dropping everything everywhere and trying to fight a war in which the "front line" can be drawn as a circle around around every single unit spread out all over the enemy territory. I guess the retarded generals are all dead and field promoted ones actually saw combat in their lifetime.

Unlikely to be an issue if they're used as efficiently as before. Wonder how Ukrainians are preparing. This planned Russian advance has to be stomped.

From what I hear they suppose to had an offensive today. The last and this week are supposed to be the crucial ones (always hear this shit) but a week ago, Arestovich said that next two weeks will be the worst.

Other news coming that returning units are at 40% strength and physically exhausted. If some of them going back, they won't help with morale.

Ukraine AG said something that they have reports of another place that's even worse off than Bucha.

I see the same mentality in China, but not in US colonies where many towns have "commons" i.e. common area upkept by all. Also in Ukraine a lot of smaller towns that got fed up with shitty roads and luck of budget, outright chipped in as a town and rebuilt their roads. Common is not always "not mine", I think that's just mentality and Russia has always been more Asian in its mentality than European /Western.

some of these Russian propaganda vids are lolcow treasures:

I think this comes from people feeling they are represented by their government or have a say in it. China and Russia are corrupt enough that voters hardly matter to how the country is run, at the end of the day it’ll be done how the higher ups want.

This has to create a sense of detachment so they stop feeling personally involved with the government and community they’re stuck in. Not like they can vote out Putin if he destroys their country.

I did think weeks ago that the Russian encirclement of Kiev could be a feint to close the cauldron in the East (I thought it was a possibility, mind you and the retreat from Kiev has shown that any attempts to call it the real plan from the start are pure copium). This is definitely looking like the end of the Winter War where the Soviets after coping and seething profusely about their humiliation early on managed to wrangle enough of their retard strength to break through to Karelia and save some face. Mariupol will probably fall soon (it's insane that it hasn't already) because that's the bare minimum Russia needs to be able to claim victory and denazification.
