Same with the Soviets at Odessa in 1941, or the Siege of Leningrad, or the Siege of Sevastopol. All those starved civilians, destroyed buildings, ruined lives. All for a hopeless cause. All those civilians held hostage.
Correct, I'm glad we agree. The people of Ukraine would've been infinitely better off under a Nazi aligned government than what they got under Soviet rule.

I mean, I get that, but some people in here seem to be of the idea that if a city gets surrounded the defenders are to automatically surrender not even after a month rather than resist.
Yeah no Grozny, Hue, Stalingrad, Fallujah, and Sarajevo called. Surrounding a city doesn't guarantee it's surrendering in fact most cities can easily stockpile food, ammo, weapons and hold out for months even years. People forget that motivated angry people don't give up because the city is surrounded. Ask anyone alive still and not messed up who saw Fallujah first hand. It's not a pretty scenario more times then not you can't tell if it's civies with a gun or combatant's.

this is what we should have been aiming for after the USSR collapsed, but got a 1-party nationalist government propped by a crop of robber barons who got the old country's wealth for a dime instead.
Well, at least you got a nationalist government, instead of one that hates you and imports foreigners to replace you.
They suffer more than Catholics.
Oy vey....

Two very graphic videos that emerged:
- Dead Russian soldier gets stabbed in the face multiple times; also in his eyes.
- Ukrainian soldiers celebrate the killing of Russian soldiers. You can see that one Russian soldier still has his hands tied behind his back.

Glad to hear it. But let's be honest, while one can still disagree with the defenders and their cause, be they Soviets or Ukrainians. It would be foolish to expect your enemy to surrender without a fight. It would be thickheaded to suggest that only your cause has just reasons to defend itself, and that your enemies simply for being wrong should be rationally expected to just lay down their arms.

Atrocity begets atrocity, such is the nature of war
I mean this is a gray war with no real black and white side. You have national batallions who are gleefully committing war crimes because you're invading his land so that's expected.

You have separatist batallions who have engaged in tit for tat violence with Ukrainian military and national batallions for years.

Then you have the chechnyans who already have a reputation for committing attroctices that make the Nazis shiver. All in all I expect things to get spicier as Ukrainians become known for being extra spicy to chechnyans and vice versa. Because the Nazis and Chechnyans probably see this as some holy war 2.0

Here's a longer video where you can see that a Russian soldier is still alive so they shoot him a few times.
