Lesbianism was presented by a Japanese writer Nobuko Yoshiya (who had a ""best friend"" she lived with, naturally) who started a bunch of the Shojou genre like "sisterhood" and basically everyone loved it. Her stories are basically all classic lesbian tropes of being torn apart and sad endings to yearning hearts. They were immensely popular with young women and was essential growth for the Shojou anime dramas after which coincidentally were mostly all hetero stuff or NL as it's called in Japan (normal love).
There is another anime called Yuri Kuma (lesbian bear) written by a lesbian which equates it with bears. Cubs are cute and fine so being in girls-love in middle school and highschool is fine because it's cute love. When you're an adult, you're a bear and that's dangerous to society and it must be put down. The plot is weird and not very friendly to foreigners because it's painfully Jap but the sentiments are based.

You're going to have to elaborate on hygiene and especially on what you mean by "image issues".
For Hygiene, if you mean like not shaving legs or armpits? Body hair basically grown naturally by both mature sexes and a lot of lesbians don't conform to gendered expectations of their culture, which often times is shaving. So not shaving is one of those that I suppose it sometimes done. A lot of girls just don't care. Even str8 women don't shave during winter because they can get away with it and because it's a pain in the ass even if you like the end result of smooooooth legs. If you have ever long term lived with an adult female of any sexuality you will know this. I also personally know some lesbians who have had full laser hair removal, everywhere. I'd have to agree with "likely because we can get away with it" in terms of "not shaving" although girls do have preferences with partners.

For plaid, try Duluth Trading Company. They're made for people who farm/labor so they're clothes that move with you and don't get fucked up easily. The secret to finding cheap but quality flannel/plaid is basically look for brands that cater to ranchers/farmers/ blue collar people. If you want normie brands that are plaid but usually a cooler cotton blend, I had a male friend who swore by Hollister, Abercrombie, and American Eagle for his beloved plaids as this was all he wore.

OSRS and RS3 are amazing and no I do NOT take criticism. RS is endorsed by Dear Leader as well as I know for a fact he has played/plays OSRS/2007 scape. RuneScape is a game that you never can quit. You just come back to it over and over and unironically realize it's not just nostaliga-fagging but is genuinely good. Also if you're an oldfag for OSRS they grandfathered your monthly premium in for $5 lol. Go buy your 10-15 year cape bro. Enjoy it.

I haven't tried watching it. But I get how it is as a game series. Like as far as lesbian as fuck games Kancolle has canon lesbians but is made for men.
A lot of the obvious lesbian stuff is often aimed at men because the fantasy is there's no men in the series so male is you. Or at least they're not there to ruin your "innocent love". Like Love Live! Where Nozomi literally verbatim hints shes gay (the English translation for the old game cut it out but if you even knew rudimentary Japanese you could hear what she said). Men also love a lot of moé style yuri bait like K-ON, Yuru Yuri (i like this one because i enjoy the comedy of it) etc.
I will say that Kobayashi Dragon Maid is unironically one of the best lesbian anime/mangas that's mainstream because it appeals to many types of people. Kobayashi is obviously a lesbian and drawn like a normie gender-non- conforming lesbian (note: she canon still wears makeup to work even though she's dykepilled). It's more evident in the manga I think that they're just a normie lesbian couple because they sleep in the same bed etc.
Other series like Kill la Kill (most things that studio makes are male-centered tbh), where there was lesbianing or obvious yuri bait are also male. In Japan, most GL (girls love) is baited to men. BL (boys love) is baited to women and unironically the underground industry such as fan art/doujins is run by lesbians and made by lesbian women for other women who love women (basically its a way to sexually express yourself without being sexualized as a woman or attracting men to your craft, in America dumb retarded women think it means theyre gay FTMs ).... NL (normal love) is also baited to straight women although some of it guys can find appeal in as well. Note NL doesn't include shounen or seinin even though there might be a female love interest in these series she's always a background charachter.
I've been watching the 79 Gundam like a giga chad and I'm surprised more jap lesbos/fujoshi haven't caught onto how fucking gay Amuro is for Char and vice versa. I also will say that the difference in what girls like vs what guys like with Japanese compared to western audiences is funny. Like fujos love One Punch Man to the extent some of the creators and voice actors were surprised at an anime con when all the fans were straight men LOL. They're also is a pretty good lesbian/bisexual woman following of Berserk doujins for Guts and Griffith who essentially just ignore Casca and focus on the fact that Griffith is painfully homosexual and in love with Guts got BTFOd by Casca who ended up liking Guts who himself likely is a little bi.
What other non-conventional lesbian stuff have you seen or stuff that should be claimed by at least Western lesbians? I vote more girls should get into the Raifurus/Gun Wives of Girls Frontline. I'm not a gun sperg but it's gay as shit and the strategy game and storyline is really fun and depressing/ good. They also have a bunch of different artists for the game so you get a good variety of very cool characters. But it is a mild money sink if you like special skins or need YOUR WAIFU as a drop. You don't have to spend money for it tho.

Oh Charmuro is probably the most popular Char ship after Charma. It's just UC has never been super popular in the US so the fanbase is pretty small here. But even Tomino himself openly said he made them gay AF to pander to fujos because fujos were originally the core Gundam fandom (and still largely are on the Japanese end).
Wait til you get to Zeta and CCA, they get even gayer. Char's entire character arc is being the ultimate bisexual space disaster who somehow manages to keep falling upwards. Though personally I prefer other blond Gundam disasters (I'm like the one person that actually likes the main villain of 08th, that is my ride or die helltwink).
Gundam has tons of great lesbian awakening characters too, in retrospect Cima Garahau was one of mine. And while I'll never stop ragging on her for doing basically the same thing as Reccoa, Aina is hot and 08th would be a much better series if Shiro didn't exist.

Then I quiz her on how it was with all of her past girlfriends and she actually manages to convince me that she feels like she knows where she is going with the future with this new girl, she is more grounded and stable and she feels like home.
She has never said this about any other girl, and to be fair to her, this is the first girl she has ever spoken about with such conviction. There has always been a quality about my friend that seems like she never quite knows where she stands with her partners and is trusting on the future to be okay.
Not with this one.
So we meet up and I get ready to do a dad with the shotgun routine just in case--but yes, she actually is more grounded with this new girl, this chick is more thoughtful about her decisions, seems very intelligent, way less self-centred than any of the previous girls, and most importantly she is willing to meet my friend where she is at.
I'm very protective of her because she had major chronic depression when we were younger, like so badly she started having paranoid delusions, and she had an awful home life AND she is autistic. So essentially she is about 10 years behind where she should be in having her shit together and understanding how the world works.

What do y’all think about the “gold star” standard, i.e. the less shit you’ve had up your pussy the more lesbian you are? In my humble bisexual opinion I think it’s garbage. Penetration (fingering, strap-on etc) is a physical sensation preference, not repressed heterosexuality, and the idea that your girlfriend is less likely to be faithful to you or that she’s a “fake lesbian” because she enjoys penetration is bizarre yet quite common belief.
Honestly lesbians are some of the most insecure people I’ve ever met because of stuff like this. I can’t imagine any other sexuality caring so much. Maybe it’s more common for straight women to experiment than it is for men and as a result it’s hard to be sure that your partner isn’t just questioning but by adulthood that shouldn’t be a concern anymore.
