Aren't student loans through the goverment and not the school. Like your loan is paid back to a goverment agency, not your schools finance department. Forgiving them shouldn't effect any school directly. Indirectly it would be proof the education you recieved was so useless the debt for it had to be forgiven since it wasn't able to help you pay it off but that's already the case and people are still going.

No, they aren't being forgiven because the idea of debt being forgiven or removed is verboten to bankers and bankers run the country. That and the usual politics of dangling a carrot for people to vote for you.

The problem is that Section 230 is designed to protect private internet companies from liability, because they are expected not to editorialize. By deleting "misinformation" and "hatespeech" they are now editorializing, and according to the law they should be sued under Section 230. But the DOJ won't act on that, because the editorializing going on(deplatforming) is in the establishments interest.

Which is the reason I wonder why people were so worried about 230 being abolished by Trump. It virtually doesn't exist if it's not enforced.

The cost was losing an entire generation of young voters disgusted at the bullshit they were pulling, allowing with losing a huge block of tech savy moderates/progressives who rightfully saw what was being done as being 100% wrong and fought back and drove them into the arms of the right/conservative.

To the left/media, it was "acceptable losses" because they were fully convinced Hillary would win in 2016 and they would have absolute power. It failed and woke a sleeping giant that aligned itself with Trump and cost Hillary the election.

Which leads to the tragedy, as in the end the left and the media DID achieve victory in 2020 as far as having learned their lessons with failing to fight Gamergate to succeed in silencing all talk about Hunter's laptop and Covid to get Biden elected. Though it would be a Pyrich Victory like Gamergate as the media and big tech are now despised more than ever before and people are even now adapting and fighting them tooth and claw rather than rolling over and playing dead.

I think some of you are confused here about the student loans

The schools that got the loans don't care, as they already got paid so it means nothing to them except maybe even more students in long the run as if you never have to pay off your student loans more kids will end up going.

The banks also don't care as student loans are all (well 99%) underwritten by a government agency ( department of education to be exact) so they still get paid as well.

So if Biden "forgives" the loans what exactly happens?

Well you pay for them.

You the tax payer. As it is the US government that is ultimately held accountable for the loans. So when Biden says he's going to "forgive" student loans what he really means is that the US government will pay out the loans as per normal to the banks who then pays out to the schools but the people who took out the loans won't be asked to pay them back. So that 1.8 Trillion dollars just comes out of the US Governments yearly budget.

Biden just can't wave his pen and say everything is good, the money has to come from somewhere and it comes from you, the US taxpayer.

So each time you see some poor proggie says we need to forgive students loans what you really need to see is that YOU need to pay back the loans FOR those people with your tax dollars.

It's all in the language. The left is a true master at the art of obfuscating true meaning by using wordplay.

Not gonna go full Alex Jones and say the feds are expecting the dollar to devalue by summertime, but I feel like something is happening behind the scenes that warrants this that doesn’t have anything to do with the job market in relation to the pandemic, since everything is more or less fully reopened at this point. I'm not talking about just academics either (though most of them deserve to lose their tenure imo), but hospitality staff, janitors, greensmen, etc. It's an unfortunate fact of modern life that colleges, especially private universities are an immense benefit to local economies everywhere.

The cynic in me wonders if the elites would LOVE to see a massive collapse of the US college system. Basically make college once again, become the playground of only the very very rich as far as poor people not being allowed unless they are good at sports as far as making it financially out of reach of the masses and someone only the rich and powerful's kids get to have.
