What was the moment that truly mindbroke Chantal? It had to have happened between Bibi breaking up with her and Nadir, but I can't think of any true catalyst. I remember Null's person stream on her from like 3 years ago and she was nowhere close to as unstable as she is now. It's kind of amazing how much behavior can change in just a handful of years

I think it's well before all that - and everything mentioned in the replies to your question.

I do think they've all played a role, of course, but her slip on reality, imo, happened right around the time her channel started and she lost her dream job.

I think back in 2016 and 2017, Chantal was at least forced to be a semi-productive member of society. She still had responsibilities, including her old job as an administrative assistant at that hospital, and regardless how poorly she was at it, it still forced her to interact with society.

Then she got fired, her channel began taking off and she became increasingly isolated from the real world. There was a moment in her earlier videos where Chantal actually hung out with people (like the infamous St. Patrick's Day video that I just love to mention whenever I can). Hell, a few of her earlier videos were frequently recorded really late at night after returning from the club.

Was she normal then? No. But more normal than now.

But as she got further away from actually working, and more focused on eating (even more than normal), she started slipping. Friends she saw frequently, like Rina, became infrequent.

Then Bibi broke up with her, COVID hit, which forced her isolation even more and everything finally came to ahead.

But I definitely believe it all began with her firing. Once she lost her job, she lost any pretense of reality.

The only time it could be argued that she traded up with her partners was going from Peetz to Bibi, since Bibi was at least employed and mentally stable. But Bibi dumped her and since then she's been back in the gutter. Even considering her background and the company she keeps (and kept, like Shannon) I'd say an unemployed "chef" with a taste for street drugs is a step down for her. Peetz, when he was employed at the call center, was probably about her speed, especially if she'd kept her job as a secretary. It's not like she's fucked up her life chasing a stockbroker or a surgeon here, her 50 Shades of Gunt fantasies about "Dom" notwithstanding. In fact, it's notable that she doesn't seem to aim for successful men. She much prefers her exotic brown immigrants who have modest employment at best (Bibi was a security guard, Nader's a bum, and I don't know what Roman did for a living but he was clearly not well-off).

And just tonight she was bitching that people aren't supportive enough and are too mean and demanding of her. Being nice and supportive with Chantal doesn't work. She sees that as weakness, clearly. Jean didn't even commit the cardinal sin of directly criticizing Chantal or trying to hold her accountable.

Anyone who wants to wring their hands about how they thought Cuba was good for Chins and how they wished she'd get herself together after her vacation should remember this. Chantal is a pretty shitty person. She will never fix her life because she's too arrogant and irresponsible, and she will never be happy and loved because she simply doesn't deserve it. She just eventually became way too comfortable with being on YT, and whatever mask she had finally slipped. She also let being on YouTube control her life.
