On the Finland thing, if Finland does apply to join NATO, Russia really doesn't have a lot of options. Technically they could still attack before its official but with how a poor a showing they have currently made in Ukraine, it be even worse with a country that has been actively preparing for a day like this. Sure you could go the nuclear option but I think if Russia tries to go the nuclear route first, Putin suddenly vanishes from power.

Let me put it this way: on the one hand, the best time to join NATO is now because Russia is in no condition to stop it either militarily or politically. On the other hand, what would the benefits be? Finland and Sweden are already in NATO in anything but name, and as Ukraine's example shows, if push comes to shove the entire bloody alliance will send you its entire arsenal for free. The negatives are not insignificant, though, because joining the alliance amounts to painting a huge bullseye on your forehead with NUKE TARGET NUMBAH ONE written above it in all caps. Oh, and it adds another expenditure to your budget.

I don't think this alone means Putin gets ousted. Sanctions in general don't result in regime changes. Instead it sorta entrenches the regime in power as everyone starts circling the wagon. I think we are looking at a North Korea or Iraq situation, where the country becomes isolated from the wider global stage, save for Russians sucking off the teet of the Chinese.

And who knows how long that will last. If something happens to Xi, we may end up with a power vaccum because how he reorganized the government to focus around him. Unlikely to happen but Xi has increased China's soft power at the cost of their internal stability if he suddenly vanishes from the picture. Putin should have seen hooking Russia's fate to China could go very bad in the next 20-30 years or so.

If anything is going to happen, it will be pushing Ukraine to become apart of the West and cut off what few ties they had with Russia.

Not only is the West performing massive Lend Lease, so Ukraine will credit a decent portion of any positive Ukrainian developments of the war to the shit tons of MANPADs, ATGMs, small arms and ammo, and now fucking (admittedly very old) IFVs and tanks from NATO, but it's incredibly likely after the war is over a rebooted Marshall Plan will be done to Ukraine to help rebuild their infrastructure.

Hell, even Russian allied countries are breaking with them over this, Kazakhstan has stated they aren't going to recognize the breakaway republics (probably because a couple of their regions have a large Russian population and they don't want Putin to get any funny ideas.)

Will this hurt the West in the short term? Yeah, but Russia just guaranteed any real Pro-Russia sentiment in Ukraine is put on a boat, tied to a concrete block, double tapped with a .44 revolver, and the concrete block is kicked off the boat and into the ocean abyss, dragging the lifeless Pro-Russian sentiment with it.

Not really. Russian nuclear arsenal is large but not limitless, and nuking Finland is akin to nuking St. Petersburg considering how close they are. If they remain neutral, nobody will even look their way should things seriously escalate.
