ho have families with children, be honest. Did any of them express any interest in seeing Turning Red? I'm especially curious about the girls' reaction to it.
No. We don't have Disney+ in our household but my daughter did see some ads for it in other places and said it looked dumb and wondered why everyone was so fat and ugly.

Bold prediction: the women are going to push for a "girl discovers that she likes girls" movie. Beyond that, what do they do? Once women have finished strip-mining their own lives for story material there's nothing left. These women aren't going to create any original concepts. Second prediction: we start hearing about a whole lot of development hell.

WTF?! Why?!

Ohhhhhhhh. I see. Can't hurt the poor wittle brown pedo's feelings after all!
Eh, this is true for all fucking cruises, they're dens of sexual assault, rape, and murder. But basically none of it gets reported because the ships are all registered in foreign countries with no regulations for this shit, the bulk of their employees are foreigners, and the actual companies try to keep it all hush hush so that people aren't scared away. I'm not talking about ports, by the way, I mean on the actual ships. I've been slapped down with neg ratings for talking about it before, but I don't care, feed me your neg ratings, cruises are fucking awful and I advise anyone to avoid them like the plague.

Yeah, Pixar is dead after this. Gratz you got your co-opted member. Turning Red was really surface level and frankly bland compared to Luca. Luca was pretty good and that is how you deal with subtext. It had a really unique palette and was fun but Turning Red was not.

It did not even really cater to Asian people tbh it was just really shallow. As soon as I saw Onward that company was gone because nothing has been good for a while.

And no need to predict it then won't be shown in China and the Middle East. :story:

I remember over a decade ago there was a cartoon where a boy turns into a superhero. The twist was that he had to crossdress for it. If I remember correctly the kid hated it but didn't really have a choice. It got cancelled pretty quickly, I think. If that show was made today, it would probably be about the main character exploring his gender identity.

SheZow, right? Even as a kid I remember that being a weird concept for a superhero show, until I discovered anime and that Ranma 1/2 did that concept way more justice.

Ranma is also not a superhero. Closest comparisons you can make are Gonna Be the Twin-Tail!!, Kämpfer, and Magical Girl Ore, all of which involve genderbending for battle.

Granted, SheZow! really wasn't an entirely new concept given that Kämpfer came out in 2006 (anime was 2009), but at least SheZow! just involved crossdressing and not actually changing the MC's body.

even back then people thought it was pro troon bs even though the main character time and time again made it clear he hated having to look like a girl to use his super powers.

Im honestly surprised a more blantantly pro troon version hasn't been pitched as a full on reboot...yet.

Yeah, I remember back when it was first coming out how the usual suspects were going on about how it was pro-nonbinary and tranny and how amazing it was to introduce kids to trannies and so on. Then the show actually came out and was so terrible that they just instantly stopped talking about it and found something else to go on about instead. It didn't last long, to the point where I don't think anyone noticed when it was cancelled.

Roy P. Disney reveals ‘our child is transgender’ in Human Rights Campaign fundraiser
"Roy P. Disney, the grand-nephew of Disneyland founder Walt Disney, jumped Tuesday into the feud between Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and the Disney empire with a fundraising plea in which he disclosed that he has a transgender child.

Mr. Disney, whose grandfather Roy O. Disney founded the company with his brother Walt, said in a fundraising pitch for the Human Rights Campaign that he was “heartbroken” over the Florida bill barring schools from discussing gender identity and sexual orientation with students in grades K-3.

“My wife, Sheri, and I have been members of HRC for over 20 years,” said Mr. Disney in the email. “Equality matters deeply to us, especially because our child, Charlee, is transgender and a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community.”
He offered to match gifts of up to $500,000 or more as part of a campaign to help raise $1 million for the HRC, the nation’s largest LGBTQ advocacy group, which reported on its tax forms contributions of $44.7 million in 2020.

“We were heartbroken when Ron DeSantis signed the ‘Don’t Say Gay or Trans’ law in Florida,” Mr. Disney said. “The fight isn’t over, and we are determined to do everything we can to stop this from happening in other places.”

House Bill 1557, the bill signed March 28 by Mr. DeSantis, does not include the words “gay” or “transgender.”

“Parents have every right to be informed about services offered to their child at school, and should be protected from schools using classroom instruction to sexualize their kids as young as 5 years old,” Mr. DeSantis said.

The governor has sparred with the Walt Disney Co. over its opposition to the Parental Rights in Education Bill, suggesting that the state could revisit the special self-governing status created in 1967 around the Walt Disney World Resort near Orlando.

“What I would say as a matter of first principle is I don’t support special privileges in law just because a company is powerful and they’ve been able to wield a lot of power,” Mr. DeSantis said last week at a press conference in West Palm Beach.

Mr. Disney said it was “simply despicable that state legislators and governors are using fear and lies to rally their base … trying to erase LGBTQ+ youth from school and sports, flat-out telling transgender and non-binary youth that they don’t belong, and revoking the rights of the LGBTQ+ community.”

He referred to bills passed in 13 states, including Florida, barring male-born athletes from competing in female sports.

It’s unclear how much clout Mr. Disney wields with the Walt Disney Co. He is not a member of the board of directors. His father, Roy E. Disney, was a longtime senior executive with the company who died in 2009.
HB 1557, which forbids schools from discussing sexuality and gender issues “in a manner that is not age-appropriate or developmentally appropriate for students,” takes effect July 1.

In a March 28 statement, the Walt Disney Co. said that its goal was to have the law “repealed by the legislature or struck down in the courts.”

“We are dedicated to standing up for the rights and safety of LGBTQ+ members of the Disney family, as well as the LGBTQ+ community in Florida and across the country,” the statement said."

I feel bad for Walt Disney both his company and family have been ruined by the very thing he hated.
