I don't think Euro leadership is in a hurry to ease up on Russia either, though they'd be the first to do it. The US has been piling on sanctions for years now.

I'm not sure how much it'd help, but if the relevant parties could provide an actual document stating terms to lift the hard and soft sanctions then I think Putin may be more conversational. He spent like half an hour sperging about how untrustworthy the West is in his initial justification and declaration of the invasion special military operation.

Sanction cost Russia, but also cost EU and US. The only difference is that the west assumes that they can take those cost better than Russia.

I literally cannot explain it easier. Both sides would befenit from sanction being lifted and both sides would benefit from this war ending.

Expect from Putin of course. It is hard for me to imagine strucking peace and holding power for much longer.

That's the real world. People 'not responsible' pay the consequences. That's how it has always worked and still works and always will work. Does some babushka in Kharkov have the power to stop Ukraine from shelling the front lines of the DPR and LPR which Russia then says is a reason to invade and she gets blown to bits when Russia shells her city? No. Doesn't stop her from getting blown to bits. These distinctions don't exist except in self serving arguments that don't mean anything in the real world.

I never said "Russia wants peace". I want peace. I am not Russia, I do not make decisions. This shitshow wouldn't have started if I had a say in it. I am afriad you are misreading between the lines.

Would it be nice if Putin said "that's it, wrap it up boys"? Hell yes.
Would it be nice if EU and US lift sanctions? Hell yes.
Would it be nice if Ukraine and the rest of the world stops its relentless campaign of hatred towards all things Russian? Hell yes, being at the receiving end of it is exhausting.

Is all (or any) of the above going to happen? Uh... no.

And the longer you ride the tiger, the more difficult it is to let go. Not long ago I started to fear we have passed the point of no return, which you noticed by the change of tone in my posts.

We live in interesting times. May the sane heads prevail and make the world at least not worse for everyone after this invasion ends, one way or another.

The US can take the costs better than Russia. I agree we'd all benefit by lifting the sanctions but my government doesn't and they have massive sway on the matter. As for the various European countries, I have no idea the impact they feel from the sanctions but it's more than us.
I'd like it if some European leaders called Biden a dog-faced pony soldier and led the easing of sanctions for the reasons stated but am not optimistic.

Honestly while I unironically revel in russia's military humiliations and my sympathy for the soldiers is pretty decidedly in the negative due to various hijinks, im rather fatalistic about how any real mass civilian unrest against the war and putin would fare. I dont much enjoy the fact that the majority of "normies trying to get on with their normie lives" are gonna be paying the toll for this shit for a longass time, but I enjoy it a hell of a lot more than the alternatives of either doing fuck all to erode russia's ability to invade shit or shit that might actually risk a nuclear exchange.

You know, for all doom and gloom, all killing and dying. I wouldn't say that situation is hopeless.

After all, there was peace between Germany and Poland. And this war is nowhere near as brutal as WW2.
