The issue was that the Ukrainians purposefully positioned themselves within cities' civilian infrastructure as opposed to facing Russians head on, for obvious reasons, while Russians (at least in the early stages of the war) had shown significant restraint by refraining from attacking them wherever they were (rather, they expected to quickly decapitate the Ukrainian government.) And no, the Allies' terror bombings of Germany are still a subject of debate among military historians, with significant evidence showing that it had, in fact, crippled Germany's capacity to wage war. In any case my point here is that Russia should have opted for a Shock And Awe strategy, which would have a higher chance of routing the Ukrainian army while preventing them from regrouping with haste.
Maybe they really did believe Ukrainians are their brothers/cousins (and for the most part they're genetically alike) but like how the potatoes have a bong hate boner, the Ukes have a raging hate boner for Russia. I think Russia understands that now, if it didn't before.

By the end of the war, the Soviets were running on American trucks, eating American rations and using American aviation gas to fly. It was that substantial. (Sure, the Russians still manufactured their own tanks and aircraft, and supplied their own small arms and men, but those wouldn't be half as effective without support.)

Without Lend Lease, the USSR might still have won, but it'd be absolutely more dicey, and very likely they might not even be able to push the Germans past their own pre-war borders since they'd lack the logistical capabilities to support it.
I'd go even farther and say without the Lend Lease I'm pretty sure Germany wins. The amount of men, tanks, and equipment the Russians lost at the beginning of Operation Barbossa(since Russia had so many offensive weaponry on their border with Germany) was catastrophic. I'm not sure Russia recovers if not for America essentially paying for and supplying their war effort.

Russian Winter definitely had a say. Germanys lack of resources + logistics definitely was a problem, but America won WW2 for better or worse and the win was guaranteed whether they fought in it or not.

Greeks were protesting at the docks refusing to load weapons headed to Ukraine, idk what's up with thatView attachment 3166405

Greeks are just mad money is going towards weapons and not towards their government issued gallons of Tzatziki sauce and Feta cheese. Meds are the equivalent of Patrick whining about how he's gonna starve except instead of chocolate it's stinky cheese and yogurt.

The entire planet, both allied and axis were eating American made SPAM in 1946 because that was the only real protein source available. Pretty much says everything. Its led to some interesting cultural phenomenon in odd places, such as the British "working mans" love of "Spam and Eggs" in the morning, or Japan and Korea's insane love affair with the stuff. Its always been considered poverty food in America (though I actually like it).

Spam even made its way here, in SEAsia. It's a staple nowadays, almost a local delicacy.

tbdesu it's not really _that_ cheap in the USA compared to something like a big pork loin

In further update on the whole "Russian troops in Chernobyl were halfwits who never heard of radiation" thing, according to the State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone Management, the troops that took over Chernobyl looted a couple of laboratories for souvenirs:
Russian troops entered a repository of ionizing radiation sources in the Ecocentre laboratory and "stole and damaged 133 sources with a total activity of about seven million becquerels," the agency said.

It is comparable to 700kg (1534 pounds) of radioactive waste with the presence of beta and gamma radiation, according to the agency.
They also apparently looted some computers and office equipment from the offices and lab of the Institute for Nuclear Safety.

You might want to take their report with some extra grains of salt given their editorializing at the end of their press release mentions the Darwin Awards. Still if the claim that they looted radioactive material from the labs is true, and if they did take it with them instead of being forced to discard it somewhere in the area by someone with a working brain, then the "Russian troops fatally irradiate themselves at Chernobyl" bingo square has a new lease on life.

On reddit earlier I was reading a lot of back and forth. "Russians raped baby and posted a video of it."

Yet everyone was saying it was true, but they hadn't seen the video. It is a crime to watch the video. You shouldn't even search to try and verify if it is true. As you'll commit a crime if you see proof.

No idea if it's true. I find it unlikely that the one Russian who managed to sneak in a camera and post a video was this. Yet what a perfect propaganda story. Something horrible, which no one can verify without committing a crime.

I would ask if anyone knows about this. But how could anyone trust anyone saying yes? How could you trust anyone saying no?

EDIT: others have posted replies about this being a Russian soldier not in the war and it being real.

It's real. It was posted here in a censored version and was taken down. It was bad.

If you have to ship meat a long way, it's a hell of a lot cheaper than frozen stuff.
I'll stick with store brand potted meat for my trash canned pork though.
yeah I can def see how it's much cheaper on islands and places that aren't the USA, but within America it's often not so great a bargain on pork, it's more the shelf life and that you don't need to cook it

It was posted in the thread at one point. It turned out it was a Russian soldier, but he wasn't in Ukraine and has since been arrested. He was apparently paid 500 rubles by someone online to do it, and for whatever reason, he sent it to his friend who then leaked it. From what has come out, it sounds like the kid was likely a family member of his.

It's true, the video was posted here. A Russian soldier who was based in Russia raped what was mostly like his relative, recorded and uploaded it. The Russian authorities have already arrested him.

From the screenshots I’ve seen, it would seem the video referenced is self produced entirely

Thanks for the info. It's an explanation that makes sense. Which I wasn't considering with my, "how could I trust any answer."

People are shit.

500 rubles to do THAT? Jfc I need a drink even more now. Hopefully the Russians just take him out back and save everyone the trouble.
