@Vince McMahon tfw you realize you are going to have to put on the white armband and run to the Russian frontlines begging to be let in and kept safe in order to avoid being assraped in prison for 10 years.

Some of them went so far as to take the fact they ever served in the Pacific theatre to their graves. One of my grandfathers told me -- and his own son -- that he had served in Korea, and didn't actually go to the front. We didn't find out until after he died and found his military paperwork that he had lied to us for decades -- he'd served in the Navy in WW2, and had been sent to Japan. (Note -- I'm not judging him for lying. Whatever he experienced there was his story to tell or not, and he chose not to. Fair enough.) The only guys I ever met who ever approached that level of total silence about their experiences were Marines who served in Vietnam.
My father was in Vietnam. He enlisted and was Navy Recon. All I know about what that was like came from a coworker I met as an adult who did the same thing who would still dive to the floor if he heard a helicopter.

The Vietnam war fucked me up to and I didn't even serve. It is just that my father was so damaged he couldn't reintegrate into society properly and he ruined our family Sam Stone style. The psychological damage I suffered as a kid has seriously affected my life. It is probable that the coming generations of Russians and Ukrainians will have similar issues. The damage doesn't stop just because the battle ends.

Just before the coof my oldest son was studying for the ASVAB getting ready to enlist. The plan was delayed and then when Biden was elected and the Afghanistan debacle happened he put the plan on hold indefinitely. I wouldn't have stopped my son from serving, but I was selfishly not thrilled about it. He is safe from war now until 2024 at least, or until the USA v, China hot war begins.

Ukrainian refugees in a new reality.

-Good evening. Since the trains are still free, I wanted to show Paris to the older children of 16 and 18 years old. Do you know where you can stay for 2 nights?

-No, I do not know where to stay for 2 nights to see Paris. It's a little early for us, those who are now helping refugees organize tours around Paris and engage in free resettlement.

Це перемога.

The goal is to contain the escape of rats from a sinking ship. The consequences, as we have seen more than once, are not too important.
I man 4.5m people have already fled Ukraine. If we take away that from the current population of 45m as well as war casualties, people yet to flee and those who will no longer be considered Ukrainian when/if Russia takes the territory they want then Ukraine is looking like a pretty bleak place to live for the next 20-30 years. It's looking like even the threats of prison won't stop people from fleeing if that's the case.
