Eat The Bugs - Megathread - 🪱🪳🦗🪲

I think it's high time we create a separate thread just to throw in the unrelenting wave of articles, pushing for people to eat the bugs.

In the last few couple months, we've had articles like these:

You WILL eat ze bugs, goy.

Ain’t gonna happen, no matter how hard you try and push this. I’ll go vegetarian before I lower myself to eating bugs. I’d tell these people to have some pride in themselves but it would be wasted effort.

Here's a slightly more subtle PorcinePropogandaPiece. Focuses almost entirely on an efficiency (implied green) argument:

I can see why (((they))) are such big fans of methods like this. Is fun. Edited to add a recolor, I noticed this blends too well with the BG on 4chan.

They can't eat the bug though you antisemite! It's not kosher. No! No asking why they're pushing it on anybody else then.
Edit: Can someone help me come up with a slightly less on-the-nose (kek) phrase than "Eat the pig Schlomo"? I remember enough from FFA I am pretty sure I can make some great swine/pork copyright working entirely from memory.
Edit 2: I understand it's probably going to make any actual graphic designers reeeeeeeeeee, but if you spend any time in agriculture you know this is something that would absolutely come from some PR agency. I think I managed to soft name (((them))) without being outright objectionable. If anyone has ideas, I think I might producing a lot of these to spam "You WILL eat the bug" posts. Here we go:

I like pork but it gives me heartburn.

Friend have you heard the good word of the Cattlemen's Beef Board and National Cattlemen's Beef Association? They are literally the masters of Beef advocacy. Real recognizes real and I am not about to try and step on their hooves toes.

They are unironically my favorite lobbying group. And in case you missed this in their list of resources:

Someone please tell me who I need to contact to get KF connected to the God damn BEEF API. Animal control, deathfats, lolcows in general. It's a perfect fit. Apparently access to the beefy memes has a vetting process. I am determined to get access. E: I know for a fact somewhere they offer license plates for cheap/free. Show your cattle advocacy today!

One time I was refilling the bird feeder and I was really hungry so I just started munching on dried mealworms on the porch at like midnight like some kind of feral tarsier/bird/raptor cryptid thing.

They're not bad tbh, a little nutty and kinda plain. Texture is more or less like dried shrimp&similar small dried sea critters that you can get snack packs of at asian markets.

Shrimp, mealworms, crickets, crawdads, lobster, etc all arthropods and all delicious as long as you prepare them right as far as I'm concerned

If chewing on a fried tarantula leg or biting into a crispy grasshopper makes you cringe, you could be missing out. More than a quarter of the global population regularly munches on edible insects.

Hey Arab world! If you've never had a delicious ham sandwich or a juicy pork chop you could be missing out!

It's funny how cultural norms can only jump the western whypipo barrier. If you try to toss them to the other side you'd be called racist.

I'm not eating the bugs. I realise my current consumption of almonds as a snack that keeps me away from candy is not sustainable. But if they are in the store I am buying them. It's not up to me to keep large scale production of unsustainable goods at bay. Hell, I had to stop buying bags of mini avocados because of the price increase. Thanks Mexican drug cartels.

Gans also noted that while some people experience allergic reactions to soy protein, that is unlikely to happen with cricket protein. However, those with shellfish allergies may have reactions to insects, so you may want to check with your doctor before trying a cricket-based protein powder.

Well this is the first time I've seen this. Do you go into anaphylactic shock from crabcakes? Well cricket burgers may not be for you. Just wait until the first kid dies from an allergic reaction to bugburgers.

While nuts and seeds are a great source of zinc, you’d have to eat 7 cups of almonds to get the same amount of zinc as 1 cup of crickets.

A cup of almonds can give you about 3 milligrams of zinc while crickets can offer more than 28 milligrams. Zinc helps your cell growth and healing and supports a healthy immune system.

Yeah. No one's going to eat seven cups of almonds and you know that. That many nuts is going to make your colon your worse enemy. And the calories would be through the roof. That many almonds might actually be toxic.

But there's this thing called vitamins. I already take a zinc supplement because it's recommended for lupus.

Beef, shellfish. fortified grains, poultry and beans also contain zinc. You are supposed to have a varied diet. Not cram seven cups of almonds or one cup of crickets in your pie hole and called it nutrition.

I know the article isn't saying it. But they are saying it. Snowpiercer cuisine for everyone. They won't be happy until we are munching on roach blocks and thanking our overlords for the privilege of eating them.

Im not eating bugs, I know how this will go everybody else eats bugs, and the rich still eat meat for reasons.
well sorry asholes, if meat became expensive to the point where I can't buy I can happily eat pasta and veggies for the rest of my days.

One week it's "eat the bugs bigot" the next it's "the bugs are going extinct bigot"
Make up your minds ffs.
Depends on the bug species. Wild insect populations are getting fucky and many sp. endangered, however some bugs like mealworms are easily raised in captivity&have been used as food for all kinds of things for decades. Even eating wild bugs can be done sustainable tho I'd imagine it would be more or less the land version of trying to manage shrimp&crab fisheries esp w/shit that takes a couple years to get edible size like most big arachnids.

Land arthropods aren't that different from marine ones, both can be eaten by humans as long as you do it right.

Friendly reminder that eating insects is neither Kosher nor Halal. The fact that these articles are always cranked out by someone with a surname ending in witz, stein, blatz, mann, or berg is just a cohencidence.
