The reason they are most likely doing this is because the Russian leadership knows Russias demographics are fucked and that they won't be able to do something like this in 10-15 years due to their aging population.
I personally think Putin's age plays more of a role in this decision. Not that I really know anything but I can readily believe he's wanted this to happen for a long time and doesn't trust anyone else to get it done after he's gone.

It's a losing game to count on your successor to follow the same path as you in Russian politics. Seriously even go over a few of their leaders briefly and you notice they rarely stayed the course that their predecessor set.

Their reasoning is your invalid excuse.
So either way they're retarded? Their reasoning doesn't make sense because their actions don't match up with any of it. If they just wanted to get rid of nazis break out the umbrellas again and get to poisoning, no need to invade the fucking country. If it's because of NATO then maybe don't scare the shit out of everyone by invading a country forcing them to pick sides when you know most won't pick yours? This is all on top of their stubborn refusal to call it a war when it's obviously a fucking war. It's like when some people used to call Vietnam a "conflict" to avoid having to admit the US lost the war.

You clearly don't care about their side, dude.
Be objective.

I don't care about either side. What exactly do they gain from invading Ukraine? Just because your paranoid about being invaded doesn't give you the right to invade other countries because you want to control their policymaking. It's retarded when the US does it, it's retarded when Russia does it. If I could snap my fingers to erase all Ukrainians from the world I would do so if it would make the Russians drop their weird as fuck paranoid combination inferiority/superiority complex.

Nobody is going to fucking invade Russia or nuke them and just because the Russian mindset is that of a paranoid schizophrenic doesn't give you the right to determine other countries policies and alliances
Watch Russians have meltdown if Finland and Sweden join NATO (which is looking extremely likely at this point), and completely ignore that the only reason they're actually joining is because Russia invaded Ukraine and is actively threatening "Finland, if you join NATO we'll invade you!" which is truly exceptional since it makes Finland want to join NATO more because Russia could easily decide to invade Finland anyways, without NATO support.

What is "caring" about their side, by the way?
"Their side" goes on TV and says the Ukrainian military will lay down their arms and welcome their Russian brothers.
"Their side" then says the fighting is only against a few thousand Azov, Banderistas and drug-addicts, who are somehow mounting a resistance against 100,000+ troops.
"Their side" calls every dead body on the street a dummy or a crisis actor.
"Their side" has TV hosts shouting at military officers on live broadcasts for admitting losses.

This is the best quality I could find. 352x640 so it's still pretty shitty.

If you look closely then you can see at around 0:15 one guy waving at the tank right before he gets blasted:

That’s just war propaganda for you. Ukes do it too, like Snake Island and the Ghost of Kiev. Ukes also do propaganda through using kids to send messages and compare everything the Russians are doing to the Holocaust for Western audiences. Both sides lie, that’s just war

The idea that if Russia did nothing, they would be okay is rather naive. Especially when there are endeavors to balkanize russia.
Everything that Russia is doing right now, i would venture the EU/Nato would like to do to Russia.

Why do you guys legitimately act like there aren't dozens if not hundreds of plans to take action against Russia through various proxies.
The Russians took Crimea to have Sevastapol's warm water port, so that they could defend their military alliance with Syria.
And who was out to remove Bashar? The west, the very same people that we are just going to assume have no aggressive posture after watching them take down their enemies, and the enemies of their allies one by one, piece by piece?
Were you guys just as defensive about the Western/Turkish/Qatari intervention in Syria? Libya?
Was Russia's intervention justified there, and elsewhere? Was Iran's intervention against ISIS justified?
Personally, i find justification to be a personal thing. Reasoning is not. To deny that there are reasons why this is happening, and just call them excuses is to be confident in naivete.

Their side has that madlad Solovyov on TV screeching Zelensky is a fake Jew (A&H in SHAMBLES)

The editor of RT is raving that Ukraine isn't just a few Nazis on top, it's most if not all of the hohol population that is Nazis who must be dealt with

And Dmitri Medvedev ranting on telegram that Ukraine is a "fake nation" and "a copy of the Third Reich that doesn't deserve to exist"

We have poor @Borscht complaining that the West isn't giving Russia anything to negotiate over, what is Russia giving Ukraine to negotiate over when their former president and prime minister and current Deputy President of the Security Council of Russia is tearing his shirt in rage about how their fake country should be wiped off the map?

If I were Ukrainian, I'd be telling my kids there was a lone pilot defending our skies.
If I were Russian, I'd be telling my kids to stop believing the Western lies online, all the videos of dead people are fake.
Do you think this is comparable?

I've been an outspoken critic of war since 9/11. I'm the weirdo who brings up Yemen. Almost nobody talks about Yemen. Name a conflict the US has been involved in, I've criticized it.
And now a lot of people I've followed through the years are unironically making excuses for Russia, when they'd be the ones criticizing it if the US was doing this.
It's as baffling as the people who screeched at Cheeto Hitler for years for being a fascist and then begged for harsher coof restrictions.

I don't see how invading Ukraine helps against any of this, in fact it makes it worse. Russia is fucked demographically. Instead of trying to fix that they are instead lashing out wasting the lives of tons of their people for very little gain. They should be working on fixing their shit so people actually want to have kids, not sending kids off to die so they can feel less paranoid. Even if they take Ukraine they won't be satisfied, they'll look at other territories they could be invaded through and try to make the same bullshit claims because again they have the mindset of a paranoid schizo who feels extremely unsafe unless he has exactly 16 locks on his door at all times.

Both are lies. Ghost of Kiev is arguably pretty malicious because it gives people the idea of safety when there really isn’t. As for the dead bodies, I don’t think those are fake, but the media and people in general seem too eager to call it the fault of the Russians at all times. It’s war, and things are never that cut and dry. It’s also funny that with the Western media, a few hundred can die in Ukraine and it’s an international tragedy, but millions can die from American interference in the Middle East and no one cares. Both cases are sad, but I have no real connection to either place, so it’s hard for me to care beyond just surface level sympathy. Anything more than that looks like attention whoring on my part.

I respect a lot of your posts, but it's genuinely disconcerting to know one of the people with the most balanced perspectives on this thread would go to bat for Z-tard posting.
BS is BS.
Telling my kids Santa Claus is real is not the same as telling them our army dindu nuffin.
It would be like trying to convince my kids Hiroshima never happened, a Navy ship didn't shoot down that Iranian airliner, My Lai is a lie, etc.
