A cruiser got damaged/sunk? During a war?! Whoa, better get this shit to the media, The public need to know about this!

Seriously, why are people treating this as a gotcha moment for Russia?
Because it's their biggest non-nuclear surface combatant, hyped up by them for decades as capable of wrecking an entire carrier battle group with a single salvo, and instead it got punked by a pair of Sea Skimmers like it's 1982 all over again.

I remember a story from that war where the Russian fleet was preparing and exercising in the Baltic Sea and the sailors were constantly worried that an attack by the Japanese was imminent. Apparently geography wasn't part of naval training.
They also shot at the British thinking they were Japanese so they had to take the long way around.

Yes. Taiwan Semiconductor is now probably the main reason China wants to take Taiwan.
The main reason China wants Taiwan is exactly what China says is the main reason: they view it as a rebel province, it should be ruled from Beijing because Beijing is the capital of China and it is part of China, the national sovereignty and defense and honor and pride is compromised by this province being ruled by rebels. Yes practical considerations have weight but they are secondary to ideological/identity reasons

New map of air alarms in Ukraine

Sirens are blaring in most areas.

Only 5 regions of Ukraine have not declared an air alert.

I don't think saying that is a good look. Losing a fucking Flagship of a Fleet to your own stupidity or incompetence is fucking pathetic. If anything you WANT to say "The enemy sunk the ship" instead of "We were so incompetent in basic safety measures we sunk it ourselves."
I agree it does look worse than just saying "the enemy sunk the ship". My point was just practically it's not going to harm Russia's war efforts and it's not going to help the Ukrainians. I don't think it matters much at this point in the grand scheme of the war, it's not going to prevent the Russians from destroying the Ukrainians in the Donbas which is the focal point of the fighting.

I'm sure the Russians aren't happy about it, it is embarrassing, all I said was that it's not going to effect the outcome of the war which is what the narrative in the west is.
Let me get this straight. So Ukraine can take out armor, snipe generals, bring down helicopters performing close air support and sink ships blockading them in the Black Sea... but these capabilities don't change the outcome of the war?
I could understand if Ukraine was getting severely beaten and sinking a ship was a mere morale boost that ultimately meant nothing. But so far Ukraine has displayed the ability to prosecute high value targets. They've shown the ability to take out force multipliers that have been giving Russia the advantage.
The ship had cruise missiles, anti-ship missiles and S-300 surface to air missiles. Meaning it could strike land targets, sink ships and deny airspace to Ukrainian forces. It's fucking gone.
This is degrading Russian warfighting abilities in the present conflict, causing economic damage, and furthermore it's doing long lasting damage to Russia as a military power. If you asked me last week, I'd bet a month of fighting had already caused enough damage to the Russian forces that it could take a decade to recover. Today, I actually would bet it's going to take 20 years for them to recover from this.
Is Donbass worth the billions pissed away in this nonsense?

Assuming that the Moskva was actually hit by an anti ship missile, my bet it was one of these deployed from a mobile launcher. Its a relatively modernised design so probably had a chance of getting through the Moskvas defenses

Yes, from what I saw in the Ukrainian news about Moskva, Neptune missiles were often mentioned. It seems that the bet on anti-ship missiles made in 2014 has paid off

Russia looks pathetic right now and that ship being sunk is just the cheery on top the sundae of this shit show. Whatever the ultimate outcome is of this, I don't see how they don't come out of this as a laughing stock. Nukes are literally their only bargaining chip, making Putin look Kim Jong Un tier. I expect Sweden and Finland will join NATO soon as a result of this too. WTF is Vlad going to do, nuke them? If he literally never invaded, he'd look stronger than he does now.

Burger writes post decrying how shit Pajeets are at engineering. ( Checks notes ) American hi-tec is utterly reliant on Indian engineers because their Jew owners worked out they’ll work for peanuts. Burger then goes onto explain that China will never ever surpass America coz they’re not as good as Americans at STEM.

Also American woke universities game the system to exclude Asians otherwise there classes would be 90% Chinamen.

You can’t make this shit up. Cope thy name is burger
I don’t think you’ve been to University with a chink so you are oblivious to the sharing of test answers and all the many ways they cheat to get good grades.

Also, you probably have not worked with chink engineers with Master degrees that can’t even perform the most basic of calculations without running for help for the nearest huwite graduate so the boss doesn’t know how useless they really are.

You also seem unaware that a good set of grades in college means fuck all if you don’t know how to apply it.

Yes they get good grades but they can’t do anything with it because they did not really acquire the knowledge.

They're both going to join NATO, it's about half a step away from being a foregone conclusion. Sweden has said yup we're going to and Finland is being a bit more circumspect but they did say their defense review of the situation was unequivocal, it concluded they should join. That's a big tell

Funny you should say that, the last time a cruiser was sunk during a war was in 1982 during the Falklands War, and the headline that covered the papers was this:

Needless to say, the sinking of a cruiser, the flagship of the fleet no less, is a big deal. While it is obviously not in and of itself decisive for the ground war, it does expose serious vulnerability in the Russian Navy to have such an important vessel, one specialised in AA cover as missile cruisers are, destroyed by anti-ship missiles.

That will naturally have an impact on how the navy is deployed while supporting operations - specifically, it will force the Russians to be a LOT more cautious in committing warships to such operations. And that greatly limits what Russia can do in the southern theatre; I would say amphibious assaults are a no-go now.

Furthermore, it once again shows us that Ukraine is a lot more militarily capable than we'd previously assumed, at least compared with Russia. Had an American capital ship been sunk by Iraqi forces during the Gulf War or the 2003 invasion you can damn well bet people would've made a big deal of it.

As it happens Iraq DID fire Silkworm missiles at a US Navy Iowa class battleship in the Gulf War, but those missiles were shot down and destroyed by CIWS on a British destroyer providing air cover.

This map gets lit up every single evening like clockwork.
So do regional telegrams in accord.
Pity Ukrainians are pretty much barred from posting footage.

Here's the map, btw:

They are getting severely beaten and this is just a mere morale boost. They aren't sinking ships, taking out armor and bringing down in helicopters in any significant numbers to actually stop the Russians. You act like the Russian victory conditions are losing no men and equipment. As for sniping generals the Ukrainians claimed to have killed a general a few weeks back and then he was posing for photos, clearly alive shortly thereafter. All this shit makes for good propaganda but it's not going to actually beat the Russians and stop them from taking out the Ukrainian army in the Donbas which is what matters.

This is a land war on Russia's doorstep and the Ukie navy no longer exists so losing a cruiser, while bad for the Russian navy, isn't going to change the outcome. At least Ukies got revenge for Snake Island.

Everything else is mostly :smug:

But at least it's actual war news, which is more interesting than sperging over sanctions. Ukies look like they're still losing the war but winning the IRL trolling, Russia needs to raise its game. Wiping out the Reddit Manchildren's Crusade seems like 100 years ago.

Holy shit this is so delusional

Kiev was just a feint Chernihiv was just a feint Kharkov was just a feint Mikolaiev was just a feint I guess

Russia wasted 50 days and counting on shit that didn't matter because reasons. Ukraine has been getting severely beat for 7 weeks but that doesn't matter because the Donbass offensive that hasn't started yet is all that really mattered

Don't overdose on that copium like it's a weekend of krokodil geez. Seriously you remind me of some neocon circa 2007 insisting that hundreds or a thousand+ Iraqis dying every 24 hours to Sunni daytime bombings and Shiite nighttime death squads didn't matter to the overall situation in the country because the Sunni insurgents and Shiite militias couldn't take the US military head-on. Russia doesn't even have that amount of direct military dominance
