This is the basic play of how this turned into a social contagion. Universal experiences are treated as abnormal and problematized to become evidence that you were always a part of the cult without knowing it. For anyone with limited life experience or low self-esteem, it's easy to get caught up in cataloging what makes you different once you've been told there's something weird about you (exiling you from the heteronormative majority and forcing you to cast about for a new group to accept you), to the point where straight, heterosexual girls waiting for marriage who like playing video games will begin to question themselves, and before long they're a demisexual agender transmasc with ADHD. From what I understand it's a full time job on its own dealing with insurance companies. The market is over saturated in many areas, and the number of people willing to go to therapy - and stick with it - is probably pretty low.

Unless you work out of your house, which has its own set of logistic nightmares - in the US your house has to meet the ADA, for one - you have the overhead of an office. If you don't want to do all your own office work, you have the salary of another person - who has to be paid whether or not there are clients.

You, personally, have crippling debt from university and grad school - even if you didn't get a PhD. As well as the expenses occurred during your internships - possibly plural, most of which are unpaid and full time. Plus containing education classes every year.

People look at that "$140" a hour thing, but a therapist can only see a max of eight patients a day. For their own mental health seven is probably better, because therapy is hard on the therapist too. All of that to then wrangle insurance companies who are slow to pay and a pain in the ass to customers, let alone providers.

Personally? I think therapists are nuts. Like more nuts than their clients. I may be basing that on the therapist I know who has BPD and said therapists go into the field to control others or to fix themselves. I think they are especially nuts to go into private practice.

TL: Dr: plus, it's not like trannies have insurance; that requires getting a job.

Yeah to be perfectly fair, it's not like I think therapists should be working pro bono or anything (like is sort of implied by their whining).
