Male socialization tends to involve taking the piss—lots of jokey insults thrown back and forth. Good friends can shit-talk each other like crazy, but it's still understood that there are lines you don't cross, and a guy in a social group who keeps crossing those lines gets pushed out to the periphery and not trusted pretty quick.

Fat guys do okay socially among other men as long as they have something to bring to their particular social group, and can take the piss. Maybe they're funny. Maybe they've got a respected skill. Maybe they can host poker night. Whatever their "in" is, it makes their fatness a non-issue. Yeah, they'll still get fatty jokes hurled their way, but if they can catch the insult gracefully, and throw back a good one of their own, everything's good.

Women, on the other hand...

Anyway, Juliana, for all her pretense at masculinity, would fall apart if a group of actual men who wanted to treat her as one of the guys started throwing the kind of fatty boom-boom/fatty fatty boombalatty comments at her that they'd use on their fattest male buddy. For all her "masc" posturing, she'd crumple like any other girl in the face of that sort of badinage, because behind her "masc nonbinary" mask, she's still a woman, no matter how much she doesn't want to be one.

I don't think Juliana is looking to be accepted as masculine by men; if anything, I suspect she avoids men as much as she can. I think her fixation on appearing masculine is more about erasing visible signifiers of femininity—which, given her background, likely equals vulnerability to abuse by men. If she's not female, or at least doesn't appear so, she will be invisible to predatory males; her "masculinity" is protective coloration against actual masculine human males, not a means of becoming one of them.

It's pretty fucked up, really.
