I'd say that event horizon was crossed when Russia tried, and failed to take Kiev. They made this a total war from the jump with that move, and failing to follow through pretty much guaranteed a protracted conflict.
Capturing kiev is just a symbolic victory. Strategically Russia would have to take it up to near Romanian border to secure any semblance of total victory. That shit isn't happening. It's best to just take the east and the land surrounding Crimea to call it a strategic victory now that moral victory is not possible.

If Kiev had fallen that would have been the ballgame. There would have been no major geographical barriers from there to the Polish border, and nobody would have really rallied to the flag at that point as it would have been seen as a lost cause.

Believe it or not, I read once that women fare better with heavier weapons due to their center of mass being more appropriate for their handling. Making them excellent snipers and fire support with light machine guns!
When we train females on heavier armaments (not even big ones, just light machine guns even) men often have to literally sit behind the females in order to stop them sliding further and further back from the recoil. I don't know who the fuck could believe that a 5 foot 2 inch 120 pound female is at all the person you want manning heavy guns. Smaller targets, sure, but they can't use their weapon effectively. The best gunners I've seen have always been football player bodied dudes or short but stocky Gimli looking guys, sometimes common sense makes... sense.

  • Apparently the Moskva was indeed sunk by a Ukrainian missile through NATO support. Most of the crew drowned with the ship and the few that survived were rescued by Turkish vessels. From Russia's POV this is a huge escalation and how they will react to it remains to be seen. VOR fears that we've passed the event horizon where a peaceful solution was probable and that the west underestimates the ramifications of the Moskva's sinking.

After the 1487th kill Uncle Adolf himself posessed the spirit of an Ukrainian fighter to get that shot.
I usually don't believe in destiny, astrological woo, higher powers bothering to get involved in mortal affairs or whatever, but that number is indeed quite an interesting coincidence.
I would guess those casualty numbers are not accurate for the Ukres since their 14.000 to 20.000 force in Mariupol was wiped out.

Losing 14.000 - 20.000 men is a huge loss for modern militaries and I wonder if the defenders of Mariupol were professionals or Volksturm trash, probably both.

Also, there hasn't been any TB2 drone footage for a long time now, I wonder if the Ukres have spent all their drones already.
The Ukrainians losing 20K in Mariu/pol/' alone would indeed be a massive oof since it's more or less the total death toll of the war in Croatia. Until we know better, I'll assume that the casualty rates are very bad on both sides.

He should have gone for an administrative role instead of combat. Admin gets all the good medals.

Crazy how there's a major war going on, in 2022, in Europe, and we know less about what's going on than people listening to the radio in 1943 knew about WW2.
Problem is, we have so much info out there that it's hard to get the straight info. Got spin doctors on seemingly every side going all-out. Believe the only ones who might have the straight info would be certain intelligence agencies, and that's only if internal politics allow the publication of the straight info.

Also keep in mind that there are many, many aspects to any given war. We hear a lot about Russian logistics problems, but I'd like to know how well Ukrainian logistics are functioning. Would also like to know how the Ukrainian medical system is handling the combat wounded, as well as civilian casualties. Wonder how many Ukrainians are being treated in Poland/Germany/other countries. Also wonder how many, if any wounded/sick Ukrainian soldiers are being treated in medical facilities at bases in NATO countries - sign of NATO's deepening involvement.

Added: Believe this war is going to go on for months, barring something unexpected on either side. We (US/NATO/EU/Japan) can supply Ukraine as long as needed, with an ever-widening and growing assortment/amount of supplies/services. Ukraine has the peoplepower, since am sure women are doing their part. Gut feeling is Ukraine will not quit. Russia cannot quit but for some reason think they'd like to. Planned for the wrong war, bit off more than they could chew. Just hope there will be peace by Christmas. Then comes rebuilding in Ukraine.

For KFers in NATO countries, especially living near military bases with hospitals - let us know if you hear of Ukrainian troops being treated at the base hospital/medical center. In the USA, can easily see Ukrainian troops being treated at Walter Reed. Bethesda, Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, and Wilford Hall Medical Center, also in San Antonio, just off the top of the head.

I found this very interesting. First of all, EU parlament metions 2 sources. First of this seems rather tabloidy

And mentions banning of greek not as a law, but as a darft. Second doens't mention Ukraine at all.

So, until I see actual act, I'd say banning of greek was alt-right spergout that went nowhere, that's now used as Russian missinfo.

Other links used in EU praliment:
http://www.greeks.ua/content/otkrytoe-pismbmo-chlenam-ukrainskogo-vsemirnogo-sojuza-professionalmbnykh-uchiteley‐_ru/ru
and

My best guess: they were removed, because ban of greek and hungarian never went into life.
There were 2 major language laws in Ukraine that I know of that impacted "minority languages." The second one (wiki link) was no doubt done specifically to depress Russian in Ukraine though I'd argue both were.
I don't even disagree with promoting your own national identity in public institutions but by the modern loosey goosey terms of "genocide" that second law is certainly "cultural genocide" by design. Basically every language in Ukraine except Russia had some form of an exception.

The first law is where the famous parliament fight picture comes from.

The reason it's worth knowing about in regards to current happenings is this is why it's easy to get support for Russian-leaning separatists to begin with, even if Russia stoked those embers and fanned those flames the entire time. Ukraine made it easy for young Russian speakers to see that they're not welcome in the place they were born in.

Tell me, where there are better standards of living:
  1. In Belarus and Russia
  2. Or in former Iron Curtain countries like Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Poland
Even if all color revolution are mysteriously supported by US NGOs, is it such a stretch to believe that people want to align themself with countries that promises better lives?

There is more going on here than CIA BAD :tomgirl:
""It's ok when the west does it because they have a higher standard of living."
I don't really care either way, both sides are notorious for it, though the West is more prevalent in the 21st century.

This is so stupid... Surely Ukrainian officials have better things to do than care about JayZ

They weren't supposed to shoot the ship. They didn't even shoot it, it was an accident actually!

Somebody once told me that Vasquez is gonna ghost me
I ain't the sharpest Shrek on the thread
He was looking kind of dumb with golden girls 'round his thumb
In the text that excludes all my forehead
Well the Russians start coming and they don't stop coming
Vlad broke the rules and I hit the Ukraine running
Didn't make sense not to live for medals
Your brain gets smart but your head digs metals
So much to do, so much to see
So what's wrong with taking chest candies?
You'll never know if you don't go
You'll never shine if you don't glow
Hey buddy, you're a dumb ass, turn your gun in, go away
Hey buddy, you're no rock star, get off my place, kick rocks
And all that glitters is gold
Only golden medals break the mold
It's all ogre now.png

Exactly, you have to give Putin a way out, and they just aren't. How many different senators, congressmen and msm pundits have called for him to be killed? It's pretty shocking how fucking stupid some of these people claiming are trying to spin it as anything but what it is.
Didn't Putin say something along the lines of "no reason for a world without Russia to exist"

It is quite obvious the US Government does not want to offer an OUT to anyone in Russia, nevermind Putin. They desire to slam Ukraine with as much intensity as possible to force the war to become as dirty and long as possible, and entice Russia to expend more energy and resources to the region. The Russian demands for a negotiated peace in the Donbas were not unreasonable, but anybody in Ukraine suggesting it would almost certainly end up being overthrown (and now would probably just be taken outside and shot).

The current Western demands are essentially DELUSIONAL: they still think there is a path for a Russian withdrawal from Crimea! Nevermind the Donbas regions. There is simply zero reality where anybody in the Russian government would agree to such terms. At this point bringing in the Ukrainian government into Crimea would be like agreeing to have ISIS ruling over the people of Israel. DELUSIONAL.

Even if some palace-coup stooge they keep talking about agrees to withdraw from Crimea, the new Russian government will immediately have to deal with Western-funded separatist and color revolutions in Siberia and will once again find themselves on the defensive from Western soft power and a strategy of containment while attempting to uphold their international image.

The best solution for Russia in the current environment they find themselves, is likely to do exactly what I think Putin is now doing: simply normalize the situation in Eastern Ukraine and shore up the territories they hold. Then keep a disputed border with Western Ukraine they can periodically make incursions into, a constant state of limited war. Very similar to the State of Israel making incursions into its Palestinian neighbors. Yes the usual freaks screech loudly on Twitter, but for the rest of the world life goes on business as usual.

Ukraine will have a total war economy for perpetuity, well supplied by the West, but limited in its actual engagement with the Russian army. It's ironic that Zelensky looks to Israel as his inspiration for a future Ukraine, when they will likely end up being Palestine.

If indeed most of the crew went down with the ship or was failed to be rescued (there was apparently a sizable storm so a good amount of the crew who managed to jump overboard being lost would make sense) this would be a pretty big failure. Any time a ship sank with over 50% loses, even in World War 2, it was considered pretty bad. Hell, look at the USS Indianapolis, twelve hundred men were aboard, nine hundred made it into the water before she sank, three hundred made it out, wasn't only infamous because of the sheer loss of life but because only around 1/4th of the crew lived.
