I came across something in slavspeak which I've never heard of before, the term "kontraktniki/contractniki", while reading some articles about the massacre in Novye Aldi.

From a CNN transcript:

Granted these are from Wiki & CNN, two shining paragons of unbiased & factual information; but I wondered if Russia does/did have something like that in the past, but the practice has been replaced or named something else. Like Wagner.

Kontraktniki (literally "men who signed a contract" in Russian) are people who signed a contract with Russian Military after one year of mandatory conscription (people who serve as mandatory conscripts referred to as Srochniki). They are what regular Russian Army consist of.
I think it's just mystification on the part of CNN.
Wagner is it's own category.

Okay, this made me laugh. Ah yes, those mercenary contractnics.

Well, I made it short. Kontraktniki (контрактники) are soldiers, like all professional soldiers in the Russian military. These soldiers are people who have military contracts, as opposed to one-year conscripts who have to go through mandatory service. Not much conspiracy, I'm afraid.

So yeah, it's not really a worthy read other than for laugh value.
"kontraktniki/contractniki",

Just people who choose the army as a career. They sign a contract to serve, hence the word using the same root.

Also, lol @ wikipedia
There is no escape from western propaganda:

Wiktionary page for the word as an example of contextual use provides a story how kontraktniks that refuse to fight in Ukraine are given a stamp "prone to betrayal, lies and deception."
Source given leads nowhere relevant.

The war really came home today, boys.

A Ukrainian camgirl banned me from her stream within a few seconds of my arrival because she saw my screen name (my actual last name) whiz by and said she recognized it as Russian.

It's Swedish.

That's exactly how dumb and angry I like 'em, and that boner is lost forever.

CURSE YOU MASTERS OF WAR AND ALSO WHICHEVER RUSSIAN WORD MY NAME RESEMBLES (I CAN'T FIGURE IT OUT)

I was aware of Russian having contracted soldiers; but they can only do it after being conscripted in the first place, like a reenlistment? And not something one would do to get out of being conscripted in the first place, along with being given some choice of job-specialty?

Don't worry bro, there's plenty of hot Russian camgirls out there. Your benis will survive.

Well, there is only three ways you are not getting conscripted in Russia ( and probably in Ukraine too, considering how many young Ukrainians run into Russia to avoid conscription).
1.You have physical or mental illness(such as being an open homosexual or a tranny fagget(based)).
2.You go into police academy/military academy or institutes with military pulpit.
3.You hide from conscription commissars until you are 28 years old, therefore not fit for mandatory service.
I am sure you can get yourself a contract with the military after military/police academy, but any other reason will bar you from contract duty. (and also from work in the police and customs, if you don't have some connections.)

I don't think any world leader will answer their call.

Nope, I don't believe the Russian sources saying Kyiv wants their army killed to the last, they certainly want the pity pr; but not the annilation of their army.

However Azov are a massive embarrassment for the country, if the USA ever managed to balkanise or get a friendly Russia back who does as it's told; guess who would immediately get the bilateral ISIS treatment?

Could Ukraine have picked a better name for this Russian Freedom Battalion gayop they are doing now? They really love giving Putin free ammunition to call Ukraine a Nazi state.

For historical context during WW2, Germany recruited Soviet POWs into a Russian Liberation Army, a collaborative force of Russian exiles, Soviet POWs, and pretty much anyone who hated the USSR that was Russian under Vlasov and similar people.
