Pretty hard tbh, besides general things like "hello" and "please" they're not the kind of languages you can really pick up just by hearing them a lot because the grammar is very complicated, but they're not impossible or anything with a little effort and he was at a huge advantage having a wife who spoke one and living in a place he could practice all the time.

He seemed to be the type of guy who liked to feel like he knew it all though so I could imagine him getting frustrated by trying to learn.

Gonzalo was the quintessential unreliable narrator. How many years was he in the Ukraine? Ethnic Russian/Ukrainian wife and child. Sure he didn't know the language initially. But he always talked about how he constantly mopishly avoided getting killed despite people trying to tell him what was up. He always had a solid eye on who was gathering on the street and the demeanor. Wasn't he always trying to get people to move their to amass followers? Remember how he tried to deal with Joshua Moon in a classic carrot/stick quid pro quo and was aghast that his common thug style didn't pan out?

I think he liked to play the clueless oaf to the locals so that they would feel at ease talking about him within earshot. An easy way to tell what they are up to and where he really stood with them.

He always played both smarter and dumber than he really was. Neither really consistent. He wanted to be a power user in life. However in this case. The the case of war. Subtlety, implied threats, diplomacy all goes out the window. People act on their instincts instead of any coy rules of civilization. It is deadly for them to be unsure, to let a problem slide, to NOT take action.

yer, even though I have no solid idea if he’s dead or alive, this is the idea of what happened in my head;

CRP wanted to help accelerate Russias invasion, meets up with a local Russian cell.

Russian Spetznaz: “Comrade Gonzalez, we have an excellent plan to help win this War. We’re going to make the west believe that the Ukrainians are killing foreign journalists.”

CRP: ”That sounds based and red pilled! How are we going to achieve that?”

"Specific plan of action" sounds ominous, although I guess if I was getting vanned going for my own or one of their guns and making them shoot me is preferable than ending up on a Best Gore thread.
Coach is old though, I hope he's got a better plan than grabbing one of their guns, his chances of that working and him getting away or getting shot are far lower than just getting bodied and tied up while they laugh at his pitiful struggles are slim, if we're talking about actual SBU or hardened paramilitary guys.

Coach is a con man, through and through. I wouldn't be surprised if he's doing this to drum up interest in whatever shaggy dog POW stories he shares in a few weeks, or if he's allowing rumors of his death to spread for a Christlike return/rebrand.

I hope nothing happened to him and he's just grifting, of course. My condolences to his family if he has been captured or killed.

I just like to make an important point made by a journalist called Fintan Dunne. The rumors about CRP's death was made by a youtuber called iearlgrey where he misinterprets information by Scott Ritter. Where he almost stated factually that Gonzalo was dead. That is at least how I got the information. And I think Mr Dunne can offer a slightly different perspectivce that are very relevant to the current situation.

May be very optimistic but at least there is still hope Gonzalo Lira is alive

Yeah, people are jumping the gun and claiming that Pedo Scott confirmed CRP's death when he did no such thing.

CRP's probably still dead though, there just isn't any real confirmation beyond rumors.

I don't know that Coach could stay quiet this long if he wasn't either dead or detained. He was loving his bout with fame. If Coach has passed, I put equal odds on:
  • Heart attack
  • Randomly shelled
  • Sold out by (neighbors/hosts/family/someone he verbally accosted), to some Ukraine force (azov, militia, military, doesn't really matter)
Also, Coach was a horrible writer. Just like he was no good at being a reporter/commentator, life coach, YouTuber, and everything else. Not even 1% of any given population know who he is/was, anywhere. Internet famous is not famous.

Some commentor on The Duran today claimed a Chilean embassy remarked to them, "Why would we be concerned about a US citizen?" The Alex's didn't know how to respond, not being aware apparently that Coach was born in the US. They were pushing for people to contact Chilean Embassies and Consulates to encourage Chile to raise an issue of CRP. I mean at this point, Coach has been so full of shit, all I can do is laugh. Who knows what he actually was. (Except perhaps, a failure.)
