However, that 1402 comment makes think Tube is looking more at Prince Hal (the future star of Shakespeare’s Henry V, who features in the Henry IV plays.) Hal’s arc throughout the Henriad is to have him grow from being a drunken reveler to grow into a proper king. He begins avoiding the truth of who he was born to be by partying, pranking, and whoring around in London. Hal also claims he’s purposely disguising himself as a degenerate in order to learn from the people and plans to eventually gloriously emerge as a true king. There’s plenty of Prince Hal character analysis stuff online so I won’t get into all of it here. I could see Tube taking the whole “denying the destiny of who you really are” theme and trying to put a trans spin on it. I don’t agree with that interpretation, for the record, this post is just about guessing at what Tube’s play is going to be about.

Perhaps he's going to assert that Fops were transgender and it's a device in the play for outing Hal as a secret lady.


What the fop discourse actually does is show up that this is a type of man, one that lived without hormones and surgery until recently. Not that it's a type of woman historically.

Laughing at Fops carried on until recently with Dick Emery and Kenny Everett etc in Terf Island. Don't know about other countries.

Laughing is no longer permitted of course, which could have been sufficient acceptance of men with foppish personalities. Instead we have 21st century Fops in women's sports and rape shelters. Now we are laughing at their appalling aggression to non believers. It's beyond a joke.

Foppishness is a man thing, not a woman thing. Get over it.

I can say that personally I’ve seen about everyone’s mind change from enthusiastic acceptance to irritation, driven by the big aggravating factors, with more people informed and ready to actually speak it out loud now whcih a few years ago would have been social suicide

Wait... is that it? If that really is it, then he wasn't "cast" as "an American journalist", he was an extra who basically got two lines and is barely shown on screen...

That accent in his dude voice is honestly much better. Like leaps and bounds more accurate.

I think it must be sooooo straining to try and talk with his falsetto voice lol he can’t do his special accents as well anymore because the priority is maintaining the falsetto tone

That's probably why. Not that Ollie is a good actor or impersonator, if you remember when he tried to speak "Russian" (in his Islamophobia vid?) etc. I always thought Brits and Australians had an easier time impersonating Americans than vice versa, in part because of American media exposure. PT just fails badly at all his acting - being American, being interesting, being ContraPoints 2.0, being a woman.

It's quite jarring to see him share the screen with Steve Coogan. There's something insanely cringe about seeing him amongst familiar faces, like these people actually have to interact with him and witness his behaviour firsthand. It must be so embarrassing.

God yes.

I watched the clip on my phone and there was a reaction shot of a woman that I thought for a second was Vanessa Redgrave! But yeah even seeing him with Steve Coogan is bad enough.
