Banana Fish fag reporting in. Out of the characters in the picture and that she mentions, at least 3 were raped during the series. My guess is that people argue that Jessica must have a hard time being happy after being raped. I think it has to be in reference to her since Ash finding happiness after his own trauma is part of the series' main themes, and honestly I am not sure if Yut Lung ever got a dick in him. He probably did, given his life, but I can't remember an exact moment while I can point to multiple with Ash and the one attack on Jessica.

But I admit I have never touched the fandom, so if it's something else, hopefully another BananaFag can clear it up.

Sad but true. A lot of canonically non-white characters will get overlooked. A lot of fandoms seem to ignore a character's ethic background entirely whenever fanart ends up being made. Jolyne is 1/4 Japanese, meaning she'd likely lack certain ethnic features her father Jotaro and grand-uncle Josuke would have, since they're 1/2 Japanese, a lot of secondary character in SDC seem to be of Arabic or African descent, which makes sense given the fact part three is set in fucking Egypt. Honestly I feel like a lot of SJW-type artists only know how to draw White, Ethnically Ambiguous, and Black, as well as One Flavor Of Trans, being top surgery, body hair, and possibly more feminine facial structure. There's little variety despite the diversity they try to present- which speaks to a lack of understanding of the sorts of people they're trying to portray, and a lack of artistic skill to represent those people.

There's also the issue of a lot of media that is made to pander to SJWs being absolute garbage, to the point the people it's aimed towards finding it distasteful. IE, High Guardian Spice. This is because that type of media puts a character's labels before the character themselves. A trans man's entire story will focus solely on his transition, a black character will have their entire story focus on fighting back against those in power, to the point of potentially falling into the "aggressive black person" trope. While these are often rather important to characters, they're not solid enough to be the whole basis for who they are, they're only a part of a whole. There's no dimension. I will cut Steven Universe some slack- some, and I mean some, of the characters were genuinely interesting and had nice arcs. Before the show went on to go "but what if these intergalactic dictators were actually damaged and nice instead of being deeply complex but morally corrupt?"

But then when media that isn't pandering introduces a character that's some form of racial or sexual minority, you often get a bunch of angry nerds seething about agendas and politics. A trans character existing is not some political message, a hispanic main character does not mark the death of the white race. There's no feasible way to satisfy everyone when making media.

You're right but I imagine that since it's so normalized for anglo-fan spaces to darken character's skin now it's just how artists portray characters I guess. There used to be a reason behind it but now it's just a thing you're almost expected to do. You're not the first one to notice that fandom more or less ignores the existence of official poc or gay characters in media, there used to be the odd tumblr post about it.
