𝕏 / Twitter / X, the Social Media Platform Formerly Known as Twitter / "MUSK OWNS TWITTER"

His exact wording is 'I am against censorship that goes far beyond the law.' 'Far' can do a lot of work. I'm sure he'll work in some kind of 'obscenity' exception.
It's a hard problem to solve.

I wouldn't want to use a platform where people post Goatse without warning every 30 seconds, but there's nothing illegal about doing so. KF has pretty lax moderation as far as content, but it's actually pretty strict in terms of wantonly being a dick.

As far as I'm concerned, these major social media platforms are just too big and centralized to ever be healthy. There'll never be a single ruleset that's universally acceptable.

I don't believe any antitrust investigation will be initiated if it has the capacity to further damage woke/globohomo hegemony.

They might go after Musk, but not anybody who tries to censor Musk. All they have to do is claim he's hurting "our democracy" and most of the public will support it.
There was some movement on antitrust legislation last year but as far as I can tell it just died out for lack of interest. The golden age of the internet there were tons of community based sites. If you got banned from one you just didn't fit in and move it on somewhere else. These days there's like 5 sites/apps that are half of social media, you can't compete as an outsider and if you manage to make it one of the mega corps buys you out with an offer you can't refuse and becomes even more powerful.

Even outside of tech media, food, banking, the whole system is stacked against outsiders breaking through. IMO the free speech argument online is a symptom of that issue not the actual problem that needs to be solved. If you break up the monopolies and remove the million road blocks set up against alt tech this isn't an issue. The Apple app store is the biggest offender in tech. They decide you aren't worthy you can say goodbye to half your user base. A public standoff with Twitter or if they just ignore reality when it turns into a more toxic platform than the forbidden apps it could jump start that conversation again but people are dumb and politicians are greedy so I won't get my hopes up.

Guess you just gotta act dignified and shit.
Well, that's the thing: I don't want to see pictures of some dude shoving a razorblade up his urethra, but I don't have any problem with OTHER people seeing it.

That's why I think the best (probably unrealistic) scenario is the way things used to be: a plethora of different places where people communicate online. Then rules can be made on the local level instead of coming from corporate overlords and people can find a place fits them.

Agreed.

One of the things that surprises me about the Farms is how people tend to be very calm and civilized around here. Is it strict moderation?

I dunno why jannies are needed at all for the most part. There are very few times they're actually needed. Blocking exists. If people say or show things that offend you, block them. Then what's the problem? If a thing comes up like "There are too many people to block!" then it seems like maybe someone shouldn't put themselves in the public square, shouting off, if they dont want people shouting back.

It may partly be that, but I think a LOT of it is that a huge number of us are the diaspora of old internet message boards.

We're much older and more experienced than the userbase of other sites and I think that drives the culture.

Nobody cares what you have to say except your subhuman bugman nerd fans, you old fag.

Seriously. Everything nerd culture needs to be immolated in a latter-day Bonfire of the Vanities. And all geeks need to be forced to watch it burn and cry. And then they need to be forced to run and do push-ups until they puke and pass out.

Death to geek culture. Death to the dictatorship of the weak.
Just force them to watch history documentaries instead, at least then they'd have something to talk about that's not Batman.

So, have any of these people screeching about how they'll leave Twitter if Musk buys it actually left yet? Or is it just another "If Trump wins, I'm moving to Canada!" thing?

Between this and the lolcow uprising, I feel daddy Jim end of the month stream is going to be one of his best ones.
This truly is the year of the Chud.

They are not going anywhere until their new Blackrock app is ready. A lot of the subhumans whining about this are paid to post this garbage, like that Brooklyn Dad shitskin.

Just saying, Elons playing a really dangerous game here, that IF he goes along with what it is looking like he is wanting to do. He has pissed off a lot of I guess you could say deep state and very powerful people that essentially ran Twitter and other platforms to control at least how the people addicted to them think.

I think it'll take a while for them to start a new app, most Dems want to do slacktivism on Twitter and are using that as an excuse not to leave the website, and I assume they'd be worried about losing the midterms if they do leave.
