Oh ho ho, now John's naming names. And in so doing, he's proven himself even more of a completely fucking inept retard.
It took me all of five seconds to find the list of the Travel and Tourism Recovery Grant recipients. Sturbridge received a grant for $48,000 for a digital advertising campaign targeted to the New England area. Old Sturbridge Village, a living history museum (so obviously not the town proper), received $49,000 for updated video and pictures to be used across various media. Neither of these grants involves updating a website. At best, you could barely reach that mark by saying that the new media produced by the latter grant would be put on the museum's website, but that's hardly "building a website."
Incidentally, I looked through the other 2022 grant awards, and while several did mention website improvements, none of them were solely focused around that goal. It was always lumped in with various other projects, so none of these communities or attractions were devoting $50k to a website. The smallest town that wanted money to work on their website was Adams, MA, which has a population of about 8,000; their $49,000 grant not only included their website, but also "signage, literature creation and distribution, and search and social media marketing." And again, these are grants being provided by the state, they're not going around forcing everyone to cough up a few bucks.

Since Gamergate didn't do anything illegal it'd be a little weird to prosecute them.
Since 8chan didn't commit any federal crimes (allegedly) I'm not sure what the FBI was supposed to do. They probably did look into it anyway so "we didn't and they did" doesn't apply. Also 8chan is dead so didn't "we did" happen?
What should have been done to Trump? He was impeached twice (admittingly not for denying election results exactly) which is the only thing you can do to a President to hold him accountable outside of defeating him in an election which also happened. And even if you could prosecute a President, denying election results isn't illegal anyway.
You wasted $100,000 on a rematch of a race that Turner already lost against a now incumbent backed by the Democratic Party and the Congressional Progressive Caucus?
I notice that John didn't reply to the person asking why John wasted so much money on such a candidate.
This isn't how government contracting works though. Maybe they could have just gone with Squarespace but they'd still have to issue a contract that Squarespace agreed to and included all kinds of terms that any random making a webpage doesn't have to. If this is a grant (as @KingDead indicates above) the terms on both issuing the contract AND receiving the grant are far far more stringent than that even. Not to mention that various laws may require them to solicit bids, include a certain number of minority providers, etc.
I consider her a friend but for someone so important to the very continuance of our democracy, Brianna Wu seems willfully ignorant about how it operates. Almost makes me distrust everything she says but that would surely be irrational.

Population is less than 10K, more than likely older with fewer kids. The last 15 years has been fucking terrible for small town population metrics, with them constantly dropping. Tax income for towns and counties are down. Maybe a bond didn't pass.
Education is different parts of the budget than a website, something John would know if he knew jack shit about the world, but he doesn't.
So, $50K for a custom tourism website.
That can get eaten up FAST. Pictures, video, interactive maps, the ability to reserve hotels and get tickets or fishing/camping permits.
Then it has to hook into the rest of the city/county website.
AND it's supposed to be secure.
AND it's supposed to get months or years of tech support.
AND full documentation.
$50K wouldn't pay a single teacher's salary for the year in some places, it *might* pay 2 teachers.

For the love of God, "journalists," is it really too much to ask to take five seconds to vet John's credentials?
