TikTok creator @fryguy124 thought he was signing up for economics class but instead, he finds himself doing chores for the football team.

In a video with over 192,000 views, the high schooler reveals what he’s actually doing during his school day when he’s supposed to be in class.

“So, I always wondered why Americans lack understanding on economics, and then I got to high school economics class,” he says in the video. “I’m supposed to be in economics class right now but I’m out here shuttling shit for the football team.”

In the video, the creator explains his economics teacher is one of his high school’s football coaches. Rather than sitting in class, he claims that he’s carrying stuff to a supply closet for an upcoming fundraiser for the team.

“I have this class three times a week and all three times we’ve been doing chores for the football team,” he explains. “Until schools start prioritizing education this nation is just going to go down the toilet.”

The creator shared that the video was from a while back, saved as a draft, but claims the class is still not learning the curriculum. “That was an old video but I’m adding on to it today. I thought things were going to get better but no. They’re washing a bus today,” he adds.

“Take sports out of school,” another person adds. “Players can join after-school leagues.”

User @svfeplvce writes, “its genuinely a wonder how people think we have the best country out there, especially in the field of education.”

The Daily Dot reached out to @Fryguy124 via TikTok comment for comment on this video.

He's not wrong though. High schools all across America have been doing this shit since the 70s. Ever since NFL scouts could scour high schools to find talent, the American education system vastly prioritizes school sports, and especially football, to give them money outside of government spending and rally whomever stupid people still lives in the same town to keep the breads and circuses in check. It especially got worse into the 80s and 90s, especially when jocks got the idea they could get away with anything with the Spurs Posse and OJ Simpson.

If there is any reason why school sports have been seeing a decline in participation, this kind of shit would be it.

You know, I was in the band in high-school; and all four years, my teachers had to bust their ass with fundraisers and events to keep us around. Outside of a few that were donated by graduates, we all had to own our instruments, all maintenance and disposable parts (like reeds) were financed by the students; the only thing covered by the school were the uniforms and bus ride to tournaments; which by the way, the uniforms were recycled since they get worn once or twice a week and dry-cleaned inbetween. They're a one-time expense that lasts for decades with proper care.

Not gonna say get rid of sports or anything, but maybe make those extra-curricular/after-school shit suffer as much as actual classes that have to fight every year to stay.

Yeah, my football team had no problem fundraising to the point where we were raising money for the girls team because they always lacked outside funding. People would donate all kinds of things to us for raffles and such and we'd be able to fund the team easily. But then the school would take part of out money and give it elsewhere.

I can understand having clubs and extra-curricular activities that help the sports teams but using class time to do mundane things like prepare for a football fundraiser is stupid. On that note though in this instance the article is referring to its not really surprising this is happening if the teacher is the football coach.

Where I grew up it was the kids who were into water polo and swimming whom were cliquey and completely insufferable rather than the jocks who played football and basketball. My high school had an ok football team and a pretty good basketball team but it was the water polo club you always had to hear about.

I also say this as someone who's pretty much a snowboard bum but the weird team/sports culture you see around swim clubs is so goddamn strange to me with people decorating their cars with shark fins and the like. At least my sport I can continue to do until I get old (or switch to skiing as well) but all of the ex water polo and swim guys I meet are weird and also oddly fat fucks for some reason.

Exact opposite experience for me. Almost every history teacher and about half of the science teachers were coaches, and they didn't slack off or half-ass the curricula, and God help you if you were on a team and tried to goof off in class. No favors there.

Not to PL but this reminds me of my senior year in high school. The senior class started a fundraiser to raise money to donate to the future generations of the school. A couple of us pointed out how old and outdated a lot of the textbooks were and we ended up deciding that would be what the money would be for. The principal of the school told us the school could really use some new trophy cases and football uniforms, we argued the books were more important, we lost.
