36 year old Lacey Fletcher was found dead in her parents house partially naked, sitting upright and submerged in a hole in a couch covered from head to toe in urine, liquid feces and insect bites and weighing 96 pounds. There were live bugs and rodent excrement nearby - but the home in Slaughter, Louisiana, was otherwise tidy, said Dr Ewell Dewitt Bickham III, East Feliciana parish coroner. Bickham, a medical worker since the 1970s, said that she had bed sores that went all the way down to her bone and sever ulcers were found on her underside. The coroner said it appeared that Lacey had not seen a physician in 20 years. She was also reportedly suffering from bacterial infections and tested positive for Covid.
Lacey reportedly suffered from Locked-in Syndrome, a rare neurological disorder that involves complete paralysis of all voluntary muscles except for those that control movements of the eyes. Individuals who suffer from the condition are bedridden and completely reliant on caregivers, according to The National Organization for Rare Disorders. Lacey was home-schooled since high school when she began to experience severe social anxiety, her parents said in an interview with detectives on January 18.
Neighbors and friends said they never knew the couple had a daughter. The DA is planning to present a second-degree murder charge for the parents to a grand jury Monday. "The jurors are storekeepers, farmers - many have never been exposed to this stuff," District Attorney Sam D'Aquilla told Daily Mail. "So I asked that a medical team be outside the courtroom."
