Like, the CROWN act recently came out defining race as immutable and what not, so now because of this abortion scare, I'm hoping that dems will have to write legislation that defines "woman" as an immutable characteristic in order to protect abortion rights. If that happens, troons can't be saying they're women and should be allowed in women's spaces, because in law woman would be defined by it's immutable characteristics, not the stuff that could be changed via surgeries and drugs.

From my understanding, Roe v Wade only went through because it was considered a matter of privacy. Well, it turns out that a good bit of Supreme Court cases are based on that, and matters like this actually fall under the Fourteenth Amendment, which is why they are generally allowed through.

My point is that if they can do this, what other private matters could just stop being private matters, and what other amendments could they bend, and/or just straight-up change? A lot of the Amendments could also fall under privacy, including the Second, and the First, and we've seen firsthand just how desperate some people are to get rid of them.

I know, slippery slope, and all, but as you said, the precedent this sets is rather unsettling.

We need to pass a law that says we can ratify the Equal Rights Amendment. Once women cannot be discriminated against based on sex we have the constitutional right to stand up to these sex based laws. How can you make abortion illegal, or contraception, without discriminating against women based on our sex? Those are explicitly sex based laws.

The required number of states to ratify the amendment has passed the motion or whatever, as of 2019 (I think, maybe 201. But the deadline to do so as passed by Congress expired decades ago. The House last year passed an extension to it, but it hasn't even come up in the Senate.

I'm aware that this has a snowballs chance in hell of passing the Senate, then it would probably be argued that it has to go around through the states again, which means it wouldn't make the 2/3rds majority. But that's what's it's going to take.
