And if the above doesn't apply somehow but you still want to search someone's car while lacking probable cause, no problem! Radio for a trusty K-9 unit and have one of those drug sniffing dogs work the car. Well wouldn't you know it, the dog "alerted" on some panel or other which immediately gives you probable cause. Yay! The dogs are infallible and completely honest of course, and are absolutely not trained to alert on non-verbal command by their handlers.

Cops have always been able to manufacture probable cause out of thin air, and it always amazes me when they actually manage to fuck it up badly enough to get a case tossed over it because of how low the bar really is and how loosely the courts tend to enforce it.
