I don't know why people are struggling so much with the concept of hate crimes. A hate crime is defined as any crime you perform due to your hatred or intense dislike of a certain group. It doesn't need to be an "oppressed" group. You can commit a hate crime against a straight white male, no matter what twitter thinks. They just probably won't prosecute you for it. Despite popular culture, serial killers are actually incredibly rare, and there haven't been any caught since they came up with hatecrime laws. Should we ever get one that only targets women in the future, you can be assured it will be debated whether or not to classify it as a hate crime.

This is a really late response, but I'd say your first example regarding Elliot Roger has a bit more to it than just insecurity. Having suffered through his manifesto multiple times mostly for laughs, I think autism was 100% his issue, or Asperger's perhaps. I'm not versed enough to know the distinctions between the two in full but as far as I've understood it aspies tend to be more combative than other varieties of retards. He had the twin demons of social awkwardness and narcissism that I've noticed a lot in online personalities, so I suspect he was no different.

Elliot also had an overbearing/manipulative mother which makes me wonder if a lot of incels might have had fucked up relationships with their mothers, usually single mothers. The inverse of women who act out due to daddy issues. His father also was a very weak man from what was described, and he invested his time in starting a new family after divorcing Elliot's mother, which played right into Elliot's mother's desire to paint her ex-husband as the bad guy. And it didn't help Elliot's case that he was absolutely unbudging on what kind of woman he wanted. He was interested in 10/10 supermodel types. His upbringing had him hanging around privileged attractive people since childhood but his personality and issues were nowhere near the variety that would get him such female companionship. I genuinely don't think any woman would've been able to tolerate him though, as he was indeed also very insecure and I imagine anything he got wouldn't be good enough. He obsessively compared his circumstances to others, so even if we were to say he had some beautiful blonde girlfriend like he said he wanted, I feel certain he would soon be unhappy that some other man had a more attractive girlfriend, or something of that nature.

Also, much like Chris, Elliot seemed to view a girlfriend as more of an end goal status symbol that also provided him sexual release. So again, it seems like autism to me. He lacked the ability to picture both sides of a relationship... in fact I don't ever remember him once mentioning what kind of activities he would want to do with a girlfriend. I really like your analysis. The trauma response seems to be quite common - fantasising about a girlfriend to avoid that original thought of being rejected as a person, and not for behaviour: “I’ll show you guys that I never needed you”. Incels live rent free in feminists' heads, and women live rent free in incels' heads. It's incredible to me it doesn't occur to either group that they were both used for political ends. Call me schizo but I think it's fairly obvious that for several decades popular culture was driving a wedge in between men and women in terms of having healthy longterm relationships.
