The Russian intent in Kharkiv seems to be to keep a 8-9km buffer zone from the Russian border, and defend Ruski Tyshky and surroundings. Most villages now will have to be pried away from the Russians, or the UAF has to show up with enough force that they determine it's not worth it and just leave.

Now, the UAF crossing the Kharkiv part of the Seversky Donets seems to be a real possibility. If they want to harass the Russian advances in Izyum and force them to redirect manpower, that's the best place to do it in my opinion. But honestly there's no great options from here on out, because river crossings are dangerous in even the best conditions, and there's only one bridge through so pontoon bridges would have to be deployed. Harassing the Russians out of Kharkiv completely is also possible, but the Izyum front is really way more pressing right now.

I guess it could be done but the UAF would have to transfer a lot more men I think. And not Territorial Defense. Last I heard the push that took these villages was pretty big (around 3,000 men, dunno about vehicles) but you'd need a lot more than that to dislodge the Russians from the villages they want to keep (which to be fair, they may already have since this number was cited a week or so ago). The line they broke through to capture a lot of these villages was apparently very thin, and itself composed of LPR conscripts who as far as we know, retreated immediately on contact.

So let's pretend they have 10,000 men and the Russians can't really afford, or are unwilling, to defend anything near Kharkiv because they only have 4,000 men or whatever (a number for the Russian forces there was never given IIRC). They retreat to the Russian border.

What would the Ukrainians really gain from chasing them into it? A PR victory, maybe, but they'd be getting shelled every step of the way, and at that point more troops would be sent there by the Russians (possibly even ones not in the original 200,000+ since this is now conveniently a matter of national security), and then they'd be conducting an offensive that would waste a lot of men and equipment, but in the end wouldn't really even dent the Russians, since they can just transfer more men and equipment there whenever they want to and the UAF has no way of threatening supply lines.

tldr; It could be done but there's very little strategical value to it in my opinion. It would just waste a LOT of men and military equipment.
