Community Munchausen's by Internet (Malingerers, Munchies, Spoonies, etc) - Feigning Illnesses for Attention

Did some more digging into my personal candidate and I now think that at least the MALS diagnosis is legit (still wondering how it caused her cardiac arrest tbh, she didn’t further explain only said the doctor who finally diagnosed Mals and operated her said that this must’ve been the cause, maybe someone here knows more…).
Anyways something about her and the whole "teenage/young adult white upper middle class girls sharing their (legit or not) illnesses online" cult icks me.
I just don’t see how it’s helping anyone, you get asspats from strangers and inspire munchies and hypochondriacs, that’s it. Empathy on social media is mostly fake anyways. If you really wanted to get in touch with other people affected you could just look for a support group…

Her siblings are adopted, but it's not clear about her. She does have a family resemblance to her dad:View attachment 3263454
Her father is from Trinidad and her mother seems to be generically white American. Her mother definitely believes her medical claims and has since the beginning. They're devoutly religious lower-middle-class suburbanites without much online presence outside her mother's religion blog.

I mean not for nothin, but that man has a haircut you could set a fucking watch to. Was he not a dictator of a fictitious South American country in 1984 that kidnapped the action hero's daughter? Don Alejandro vibes and shit.

As my pet munchie, I’ve been following Victoria for over a year. It’s easy to come to the conclusion that she’s just a lonely friendless idiot who lies for attention, but she is absolutely a munchie to boot. She has a port, she frequently runs to the ER, posts about it saying she’s gonna get admitted only to post from home a couple hours later whining about something something gaslighting, something something medical unicorn. And when she doesn’t get her way in the hospital, she does something insane like throw herself into the ground, refusing to get up, and says she has a movement disorder. Hence the wheelchair we see now (those videos are uploaded in this thread somewhere). She joins support groups for the illnesses she claims; she came to my attention when she posted in an HHT support group telling the group how much sicker she was than them but that her “HHT doesn’t actually affect [her] that much.” My source sent me those screenshots and almost no one had responded to her post. And, as we saw from the messages sent to my source, she is a nasty bitch to the people who actually have the diseases she’s lying about when they ask too many questions.

Victoria is sad and lonely, but that’s because she is ugly inside and out. No one in her family wants to be around her and she’s too maladjusted to have friends who aren’t elderly church ladies. And it appears her dad knows she’s full of shit. It makes sense that losing daddy’s attention when her younger siblings were adopted is her munchie origin story—she was 6 when they were adopted and all her “illnesses” started after that. Her mom probably still believes her because her mom is incredibly unintelligent. 1D7CB100-FE33-4446-A569-F9F39382FB78.png00C0883E-1973-4EEC-AC2E-B876738C1B18.pngFCF6812A-8D19-4EF3-B115-B7D42B5017BF.png

I love when they have usernames like "chronicallyhopeful14" as you can just picture the brilliant thought process that got to it. "Others are too stupid, I need to spoon feed them exactly what this content is going to be so they can't misunderstand."

Something like "hopeful" is a bonus because you just know that no matter what twists and turns their illness takes they are just going to live how they want. So brave. So fearless in the face of adversity.

Alternatively you could watch that South African woman without a lower leg run daily marathons to raise money for prosthetics for other people. But gross. No drama. No constantly convenient endless emotional struggle where the hero never has any flaws. She probably doesn't face death with every moment yet persevere.

"How dare they, I'm not dumb, I just prefer real people's real life struggles!"

can't wait for more katie2 updates... she is vile and there's no doubt she's going to escalate. thank you, KFS.
curious about the OG katie1 too, that poor girl still seems to have no idea what she is getting herself into.
also, like everyone else, waiting with bated breath for what they're going to do with paige's infected leg...

Any other TPN users admit publicly to drinking gin and tonic out of their £285 handbag? No? Just Evie? You’d not think with all her complaints of worsening nausea (which have settled down recently now it is showjumping competition season) that her sole oral intake is alcohol and coffee.

I wonder if Munchies understand that this cycle is what inspires them to come up with new stories. Or if that feeling of restlessness when their sad fb posts goes from 30 likes to 3 just sets off this innate BPD portion of their brain that sets their imagination into overdrive
Maybe some unholy combination of both? I doubt many of them are intentionally planning things out, but I think over the course of their life they've subconsciously learned that "new problem = attention" to the point where it becomes sort of a Pavlovian response.

At any rate, it's pretty fucked up to think about how their dependence on that cycle makes stuff escalate from "look at me bend my hand" and declaring their pet to be a service dog, to actually taking unnecessary drugs and pursuing surgeries, to intentionally sabotaging delicate equipment to get themselves back in the ER with sepsis.

Tiktok really seems to have a lot of potential Münchhausen by proxy moms. Just came across a mom filming her 'spoonie' daughter screaming and wailing on the bathroom floor. Amazon wishlist in bio ofc…just why?

Munch by proxy = asspats by proxy. Such a brave mother, taking care of her sick child! Poor thing (the mother of course)!. Most of the time a cluster B hag.
I usually laugh at munchies but watching mbps makes me incredibly sad. I am a cynical bitch but when someone is abusing children or animals, I feel such an intense mix of disgust and sadness, especially when it’s someone random on the internet and I can’t do anything about it.

ETA: I read your post again and realised that your question at the end was just rhetorical.. never mind. I’m drunk sorry for my rant

Reminds me of the moms who uploaded their autistic children's meltdowns, except somehow worse. It's fucked up to exploit your own suffering for attention online, but at least it's all on you. Is her daughter a minor? Has she explicitly said that she consents to this happening? I cannot imagine any possible scenario where the daughter would know this is happening and consent to it, other than the daughter being a munchie.

Nice touch that she's wearing Adjustable Jaquie's favorite pajamas.

Didn’t dig that much up about them, but the daughter is 16 and majority of the videos are made by mum and the accounts seem to be hers too. Although one of the video captions states “For FND Awareness Layl would like to share this”
What does that girl even claim to have?
Hypermobile EDS, Dysautonomia, Urticaria, FND, coeliac and CRPS from what I could gather.

Okay, so we all know those are pretty common claims. In case anyone is new, here's a breakdown of how these disorders are so easy to fake on social media.
Hypermobile EDS: the mildest (usually) form of EDS, and so far the only one to not have a proven genetic link! If you're irresponsible and/or a munchie, you can get a diagnosis from a rheumatologist by showing off your flexibility (teenage girls tend to be more flexible), but it's supposed to be only diagnosed by a geneticist.

Dysautonomia: an umbrella term for disorders of the autonomic nervous system that range from terminal to mild inconvenience; the common claim is POTS (there are severe cases, however it is usually treatable with lifestyle changes and medication), which is easy enough to get a false positive test for but is also especially common in teenage girls.

Urticaria: The medical word for hives. An itchy inconvenience, but usually not disabling. Sounds like the setup for an MCAS saga.

Functional Neurological Disorder (FND): A real disorder that can absolutely become disabling; however, the current social media trend is leaning towards being able to make up any number of inexplicable neurological symptoms (eg: seizures, fainting, tremors, twitching), and when testing comes back clear, saying it's from FND not being bad at faking. It's more "acceptable" than psychogenic seizures, but it's probably (at least sometimes) a way for a doctor to say there is nothing physically wrong without having to directly call a munchie out.

Celiac: Not a munchie favorite, because it can be easily proven or disproven with a bowel biopsy (if you have celiac, eating gluten damages the villi in your small intestine, and that shows up under a microscope), but also fairly common, affecting ~1% of the population.

Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS): Used to be difficult to fake, since it's documented to have visible physical effects on the body part(s). Somehow it's morphed into the new trashcan diagnosis for teenage/young adult women claiming severe chronic pain. I don't understand how or why that happened - maybe the patients started catching on to fibromyalgia being a trashcan.
It would be extremely plausible for the mother and/or daughter to be exaggerating or completely fabricating most of these symptoms. Part of me almost hopes she's a munchie, it's horrific to imagine a disabled minor being exploited by her mother for TikTok likes.

From what I’ve seen on different articles really quick, Halsey claiming all the usual. Eds endometriosis, pots, sjogrens, mcas. It’s depressingly predictable
The munchie superfecta. I'm gonna coin this term because it's like they put all their money into their bet and now they're taking a victory lap because they got it.

Nobody who is actually sick would behave like that.
