I don't miss very much of the Covid panic era but the homemade hazmat suits I saw nutcases wearing in the first few weeks of the pandemic were really really funny.

Worth noting why.

The bill in question basically blanket allowed abortion through all nine months. Manchin and the pro-choice republicans were open to the idea of passing a bill with the same general limits as RvW but the people in question refused to even consider it.

Now, rather than an argument for filibuster removal or a clear case of the senate striking it down again, they just straight-up lost by majority.

Which is just a good summary of the whole abortion shit in the first place.
One side wanted a compromise and established guidelines that wasn't LOL ANY TIME AT ALL FAGGOT FUCK YOU AND YOUR BELIEFS DIS IS #MAGA COUNTRY BITCH while the other was fine with such a one-sided ruling they got pissy when it's not even overturned BUT IN TALKS ABOUT BEING OVERTURNED.

And now they think the tantrum warrants a carrot instead of a stick because they have the MSM playing ball to them, the same MSM that everyone has been conditioned to tune out.

This is one of those very interesting paradigms for me. My friends have been telling me that it doesn't matter what Biden does, because at the end of the day, he's not Trump and they'll vote for him based on that. I think I may have talked about it here, but there's value in defining yourself as yourself, instead in opposition to something else, because that means that you're dependent on the presence of something else for your own existence. Saying "I'm not the Maga King" or whatever doesn't work if people don't know exactly who the Maga King is.

Thing is, that's a self-defeating situation for a few different reasons. I already went over one of them. Biden needs a Presidential identity that's not just "not Trump," and Afghanistan, Covid, Infrastructure... Whatever his big win is, he hasn't found it. They need to move away from just Trump fear-mongering because Americans tend to have short memories, and as inflation worsens and prices at the pump bloat, things like "Covfefe" aren't going to have the same significance as they did. And finally, and most importantly, it means that Biden is staking his value not on being a President and not on changing things, but in delaying the inevitable. After all, if they can't even undo what Trump did, they won't even be able to re-establish the status quo if he makes it back in again. Theirs will be a party dedicated not to leading, but to preventing someone who does lead and change things from doing so, if only for a little while. And once that time is up, once their luck runs out...

Perhaps those very dissociated Democrats we're discussing aren't really awake right now. Why would they be? Trump's not in office, who cares about inflation or prosperity or anything? That's much harder to see from their bedrooms in their ivory towers. But when they do awaken again, and when they must travel those woods once more, they might find them a little more difficult to navigate than they did a few years ago. Perhaps a little more overgrown, perhaps a little darker.

And maybe those who live underneath them will be a little hungrier than they remember.

I've been around a long time, and witnessed an interesting pattern among the oldsters that I'm now starting to see with the Progs, though in different ways. I was going to longpost on it, but in the name of expedience, I'll cut to the chase.

I have a feeling that what's going to happen to more and more progressives is what happened to most Neocons I grew up with. In many ways, they have similarities; blind obedience to authority figures, a "with us or against us" attitude that is fundamentally opposed to new ideas or information, a willingness to overlook basically every flaw on their own side if it pushes their pet issues, and a willingness to get exceptionally vindictive, petty, and mean over the stupidest shit.

But there's breaking points. A voter who has their main issues fucked hard enough by the establishment will, inevitably, lead to enough resentment that they will take action.... And they will, more often than not, not tell anyone that they are going to do that action. The Biden Administration, in its thrashing, is managing to fuck over too many fundamental aspects of the voterbase in their mad dash to seemingly make the situation unsalvagable for anyone else. They're past losing the normies; they're at losing their lifer 31 percenter types.

I know people who hated Trump and everything he stood for, but will vote for him a thousand times over what Biden has done in a year and a half.
That is the level of damage they've done to their own brand.

Atheistic leftoids think they're better than religious people for being anti-religion but in reality they just replaced traditional religion or spirituality (a la Christianity or Buddhism) for one of three things: pop culture of some kind, politics, and most recently COVID. The latter is the world's fastest growing religion. All of these can be mixed with "I fucking love science." Religion is how they are able to have so many conflicting beliefs and cognitive dissonance, i.e. "I fucking love science but unborn babies aren't alive because they're just cells."

Also, even if my town is 75% red, I’m noticing a LOT of the small businesses that were apolitical even during the election now are starting to don Lets Go Brandon signs on them. Gas has breached well into the $4 range here....

Thankfully during the Summer of Saint Nig Nog we had zero riots or activity, there was a BLM protest that was going to amass of a whopping SEVEN people but it got shut down quick and hard.

It's just that with the culture change with people making fun of others being made forbidden unless they fall under the checklist of the "Enemies of the Left", it pushes them to the "right" when they actually have no political take and just want to laugh at people on the Internet.
