Well, he did make a difference. Two criminals are dead, and a third is crippled. I'm not seeing this as a problematic outcome.

If Kyle weren't there, then someone else would have been assaulted and potentially killed by Rosenbaum. Potentially someone less able to defend themself. Just being a mass murder wouldn't confer federal jurisdiction. It would still be a state matter. However, it is arguably a violation of the same laws Dylann Roof violated, and would probably qualify as a federal crime under a number of statutes, among them federal civil rights statutes, terrorism, or other similar offenses. Because of its explicitly stated racial motivation, it would probably also qualify under federal hate crimes laws, as did the massacre of Roof. Because of its explicitly stated political motivation, it would probably qualify as terrorism under federal laws as well.

Again, he put weird political reasoning to himself. You can choose not to believe his reasoning, which is intelligent. After that you are applying the reasoning you want to it which is "well clearly he is just wanted to feel the power of his gun," which maybe or maybe he did have political motivations other than the ones he stated. His mind is clearly on politics so that is a reasonable assumption.
