You can tell none of them have read the book and are only going off the television series, because the book contains a major character who is a stock "sex-positive" lesbian feminist who is shown as being played as a patsy by the Gilead folks and ends up a sex slave for the Gilead leadership. It's all very much something that comes across as a TERF-style critique nowadays, and its been completely memory holed since not one of the handmaiden cosplayers have ever cracked open the book.

There's been speculation from the likes of Glenn Greenwald and others that the permanent security state has been itching for a "domestic war on terror" for the sake of both power and profit.

If such a thing were to come to pass, it would be a catastrophe for the nation. God help us that it doesn't.
