The Official Futurama Griefing Thread - Revived for Hulu because Matt Groening needs to milk his cartoons to death

Is there any other scifi series where the main character(s) can easily travel anywhere in the universe*?

*(like the time the crew try to go to Dogdoo 8 but the universe ends after Dogdoo 7)

Modern people do not even get the Soylent Cola joke, how can you revive Futurama in this climate.

Also, if that Seymour episode had followed its original premise of involving Fry's mom, I bet no-one would give a fuck about it by now.

Because none of the new episodes will revolve around decades old pop culture. Everything will reference Russia, modern streaming services, Biden/Trump, tiktok, NFTs, and so on. The last few seasons of this show from what I remember had little to do with sci-fi parodying and everything to do with pop culture references and memes. They drove a Susan Boyle joke into the center of the earth practically. And did an entire episode about Obama's birth certificate. This show stopped being a sci-fi parody after the first ending.

This show is similar to South Park. In that they both started out centered in their own stories. South Park had goofy kids getting into wacky adventured. And Futurama was about a pizza delivery boy in the year 3000. There were tons of pop culture references but they were simply the ones that the writers grew up with and so the parody flowed naturally. But then the writers spent their time inserting and crowbarring in pop culture references, news stories, and politics.

But do not worry. Just like South Park or Simpson or any other cartoon. No matter how watered down or garbage the new episodes are, enough diehard fans will watch, and enough new fans will watch to ensure that these shows churn out new content forever.

Can we just make new cartoons? Sure it won't be a massive success immediately, but neither were the Simpsons or Futurama. Put in effort and give it some time, and something new can be good. I love Futurama a lot, but it had it's time. Let it be and don't sully the show's reputation by dragging things out until we reach the year 3000.

Hey hey hey! Don't be tossing that F word around here! This is Hollywood! F-ort is not to be brought up in polite company.

And yet they somehow never found the space or time to fit in one lousy Stargate reference.

I like Game of Tones more than Jurassic Bark. Something about Fry trying to spend more time with his family, even if it's only in his dream, is more emotionally compelling to me than him trying to get Seymour back. I really like both episodes and they both have really strong emotional cores, but the family aspect of Game of Tones gives it the edge in my eyes. The ending where Fry gets to spend one last moment with his mom in her dream is such a sweet moment that pulls on my heartstrings every time I see it.

Luck of the Fryish is strong too.

My buddy will insist it makes the most sense for Fry to be his mother's father (rather than his dad's) and he uses Game of Tones as part of his thesis.

Luck of the Fryish is pretty great. Fry's sibling rivalry with Yancy and how he felt about his brother one-upping him at every turn is very well done. Fry's quest to pry his lucky cover from his brother's cold, dead hands; only to realize he was digging up his nephew's grave and that Yancy loved Fry so much, he named his son after his missing brother is really touching.

TIL the Planet Express building is based off of the Cointe Observatory in Liege, Belgium IRL.
I knew it looked like something I'd seen before. I couldn't put my finger on it though.

Remember that one episode where they take a week to get to the edge of the universe and back?

If "the edge of the universe" is the edge of the observable universe, that means the Planet Express ship can go about 153,796 light years per second, or ~4.85 trillion c*.

*(current speed of light)

Of course! That's why scientists increased lightspeed.

Disenchanted is worse than new episodes of The Simpsons. You can't have anything new, and everything old will be ruined.
