Went to his website: he's just a vanilla gay, married and Canadian, but refers to himself as "two-spirit" because he's indigenous, which is at least a traditional use of the term. He's pushing for transgender programs in Alberta, but he isn't one; he just looks a little femme because he's a twank and he's got that Native face shape/sparse beard. Also he was on The Amazing Race, so he definitely likes media attention.Avocado Dude* is a family doctor, works in a native community. Went to an out-of-area hospital where one of his patients was staying, wearing an avocado shirt. Asked to see chart. Staff was hesitant, but Dr Avocado called a friend of his who worked at the hospital. Then the staff said "OK" and let Dr Avocado do whatever. The end.
(also Dr Avocado fed his patient a moose log. Then he got ten thousand Likes by bitching on Twitter; that's important too.)
It seemed pretty fishy and like the sort of thing that would (and should) happen to anyone in that situation, but figured it was better to get confirmation before declaring Dr Avocado (and Lou) an asshat.
*most likely an FtM.
He knows what he's doing, referring to having to get permission from a "white doctor." Dude, you're an MD too. You know how to get privileges at a hospital; go back during business hours and plan ahead.
It'd be interesting to see if the hospital replies; can't imagine they'll promise to educate their staff to not ask questions and not verify providers' identity.
I hope he pronounces "Makokis" in a way that lends itself to puns.
