There's no reason for that match to have any sort of stipulation attached to it considering all the other matches in the tournament were just singles. That's really what I meant. Random hardcore stipulations in matches on free TV that don't have the heat for it aren't a good thing and devalue the times when a feud actually needs a stipulation match.
I think Jeff asked for that to hide how little he could do in the match alone and to slow it down. Otherwise we would have had a five minute match which some people would see as burying Darby. We see something similar with Sting only having tag team matches. There's no way he could keep up with Darby in the ring and would either botch a lot of moves or the match just wouldn't look as good as it could have been. Any form of hardcore match on live television is okay, but anytime a company has done that there was some build up for it, even a week in some cases. AEW though was just all "anything goes in this match!".

Play offs are still happening and that's going to decrease the amount of people watching other shows. 2021 saw 2.4 million people on average watching in the United States alone. This year they're doing even better.
