Tolkien was almost the same thing.

I don't think he would have okayed Funko Pops because they're so gross, but I think he would have been okay with the first Peter Jackson trilogy at least. It was really the only cinematic adaptation that captured anything like the epic scope of the original, whatever other quibbles there might be about it.

I think we’re well on the road to the end of the current era of American dominance of global media, and as domestic production continues to falter more and more people will start looking to foreign media (both new and old) as a replacement. Anime and manga have obviously made the biggest inroads so far (likely because the current boom is actually a resurgence of something that already was very popular not too long in the past) but Squid Game and Parasite (along with the relatively low-key but growing popularity of K-dramas) have brought Korean media into the mainstream, and I think it’s only a matter of time before Bollywood starts getting noticed more as well.

They won’t. Bollywood films are fucking terrible and only somewhat tolerable due to outsourcing causing them to have an abundance of cheap labor skilled in CGI.

I prefer to believe that was some fancy footwork to avoid admitting the obvious fact that whoever came up with that idea is a creepy fetishist. Also at least Chip and Gadget are both mammals. Bugfucking is about as shit-tier a fetish as you can get (on TV these days apparently). Also it was played for laughs in the original RR, with Gadget portrayed as completely oblivious to Chip and Dale vying for her affections.
