do faceless youtubers/content creators have more appeal? i guess because you can imagine them as anybody making them more relatable, also the mystique adds some element to that.

i notice that faceless content creators seem to have more engaging fanbases, and a sharp decline in engagement once they do a face reveal. rebeltaxi and ownage pranks had this happen somewhat. you have creators like stonetoss.
anyway, i think the creator being faceless by design creates more engagement because the fans always have something to talk about, like the alleged identity of the creator.

I really don't understand this thread separation... the Metokur thread wasn't the same as a lolcow thread, it was more general. While retarded, I don't know what the issue with bantz between haters and lovers was. Well, I enjoy Null's autistic playground well enough so I guess I can accept his occasional temper tantrums and flinging about of toys despite the fact it does come off as massively butthurt.

Null often has his little emperor moments where he will make an arbitrary dumb decision because of some petty personal reason. But as you've said, its his backyard. He sacrificed a lot for us to have this space so dealing with these moods is the small price we pay. Jim has irked Null a lot over the years (highlighting lolcows and making them mainstream, lying about his doxx, guntguarding, and other small things) and I think these things and nulls general annoyance towards online hero worship, which Jim admittingly gets a lot of, has made him oversensitive and seeing anything in defence of Jim as dicksucking. But whatever.

It just kinda sucks cause its no fun having to either shit on someone or suck them off as a rule depending on the thread and theres not much good to say about Jim these days, honestly, but to obey the threads rule I guess you can say its funny how Jim can cause people to seethe about him randomly simply by existing, and despite all his bullshit its worth it having him around just for that.

I miss Jim's old content. Its unfortunate that nobody has stepped up to replace him because I don't really need 5 hours of The Right Opinion explaining some Youtube nobody's screwups to me.

Toad Mckinley seems to have gone Jim's route of being a Twitter personality instead of doing any actual content.

I think the algorithm isn't actually that formidable, especially since faggots like Keemstar get away with just about everything. Jim's smug persona and occasional edgelording was fun, and was definitely perfect for stuff like his TGWTG review, but its not an essential part of the format. I think you could make the kind of stuff Jim made fairly easily by just being less combative.

There's room for other content creators to go this route without being a 1:1 replacement. Toad McKinley managed it just fine, he just gave up to become a Twitter fag instead for some reason. I dunno what happened to Turk February. For the other people who looked like they were going this route it seems the siren call of becoming a gossiptuber was too tempting for them and they sanitized their content as a result.

I guess the problem is ultimately that its a lot of effort for kind of a minimal reward. People call Jim a sellout, and he is, but you need a little bit of that to actually get anywhere making videos. The problem is people either don't want to sell out at all and would rather just give up then cave in, or the opposite where they sell out completely and just become another faggot gossip channel. Of course by now Jim is a total sellout anyway because cancer ate his frontal cortex, but before that he was actually pretty good at straddling the line between promoting himself but not quite being a complete clickwhore.

I'm going to suck his dick a little and say that we probably won't have another Jim for quite some time cause he was fast, quick thinking, had wit and knew about a broad variety of subjects plus he presented even the most horrifying stuff like it was novelty Entertainment.

I don't see anyone in the YouTuber commentary sphere that can match Jim wit and entertainment value.

I think the main problem is that reactionary comedy like Jim's is actually pretty hard to get right. Even back in the day of no-holds-barred youtube there was plenty of no-hopers like Sargon and MundaneMatt who just didn't get it and there's been plenty more since.
In a similar vein, I'm sure you've seen the deluge of AVGN clones who failed to capture what made the original so funny. Even James himself is having trouble at this point.

The closest thing to successors I can think of are Count Dankula and EmpLemon who mostly just talk about random historical shit in a funny way. Not really "reactionary" in the same way as Jim but a similar format.

I watched Yim from about the time he was doing the Spax3 videos, a LONG ass time ago. Not everything involving him was gold(The Fanskit fiesta shit he was a part of was especially bad since, in the beginning at least, it was just "retsupurae with 10 people commenting over the video") but he made generally solid videos, though after the Patreon it kinda started to dip.
