President Joe Biden on Tuesday said that the United States will impose sanctions “far beyond” the ones that the United States imposed in 2014 following the annexation of the Crimean peninsula.

“This is the beginning of a Russian invasion of Ukraine,” Biden said in a White House speech, signaling a shift in his administration’s position. “We will continue to escalate sanctions if Russia escalates,” he added.

Russian elites and their family members will also soon face sanctions, Biden said, adding that “Russia will pay an even steeper price” if Moscow decides to push forward into Ukraine. Two Russian banks and Russian sovereign debt will also be sanctioned, he said.

Also in his speech, Biden said he would send more U.S. troops to the Baltic states as a defensive measure to strengthen NATO’s position in the area.

Russia shares a border with Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.

A day earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered troops to go into the separatist Donetsk and Lugansk regions in eastern Ukraine after a lengthy speech in which he recognized the two regions’ independence.

Western powers decried the move and began to slap sanctions on certain Russian individuals, while Germany announced it would halt plans to go ahead with the Russia-to-Germany Nord Stream 2 pipeline.

At home, Biden is facing bipartisan pressure to take more extensive actions against Russia following Putin’s decision. However, a recent poll showed that a majority of Americans believe that sending troops to Ukraine is a “bad idea,” and a slim minority believes it’s a good one.

All 27 European Union countries unanimously agreed on an initial list of sanctions targeting Russian authorities, said French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, and EU foreign affairs head Josep Borell claimed the package “will hurt Russia … a lot.”

Earlier Tuesday, Borell asserted that Russian troops have already entered the Donbas region, which comprises Donetsk and Lugansk, which are under the control of pro-Russia groups since 2014.

And on Tuesday, the Russian Parliament approved a Putin-back plan to use military force outside of Russia’s borders as Putin further said that Russia confirmed it would recognize the expanded borders of Lugansk and Donetsk.

“We recognized the states,” the Russian president said. “That means we recognized all of their fundamental documents, including the constitution, where it is written that their [borders] are the territories at the time the two regions were part of Ukraine.”

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Putin said that Ukraine is “not interested in peaceful solutions” and that “every day, they are amassing troops in the Donbas.”

Meanwhile, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday morning again downplayed the prospect of a Russian invasion and proclaimed: “There will be no war.”

“There will not be an all-out war against Ukraine, and there will not be a broad escalation from Russia. If there is, then we will put Ukraine on a war footing,” he said in a televised address.

The White House began to signal that they would shift their own position on whether it’s the start of an invasion.

“We think this is, yes, the beginning of an invasion, Russia’s latest invasion into Ukraine,” said Jon Finer, the White House deputy national security adviser in public remarks. “An invasion is an invasion and that is what is underway.”

For weeks, Western governments have been claiming Moscow would invade its neighbor after Russia gathered some 150,000 troops along the countries’ borders. They alleged that the Kremlin would attempt to come up with a pretext to attack, while some officials on Monday said Putin’s speech recognizing the two regions was just that.

But Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin told reporters Tuesday that Russia’s “latest invasion” of Ukraine is threatening stability in the region, but he asserted that Putin can “still avoid a full blown, tragic war of choice.”

Nigger, whatever "victory" Russia achieves at this point is pyrrhic at best.
I don't Russia is near getting anything, having laboriously got some villages in Donbas and been driven back from Kharkiv, and for the umpteenth time border guards repelled incursions into Sumy oblast..

Thank you armchair general. Very cool.

You will never make a real cauldron. You have no force projection. You have no effective equipment, you have no intel. You are a barbaric ape twisted by 70 years of World War 2 Propaganda and Hopium into a crude mockery of a military strategy.

All your "Offensive Operations" you commit are half-assed and half-baked. Behind your back NATO mocks you. Your own soldiers are disgusted and ashamed by you. Your "allies" laugh at your obsolete tactics behind closed doors.

Competent Generals are utterly repulsed by you. Thousands of years of military strategy have allowed military leaders to sniff out fake cauldrons with incredible efficiency. Even when Russia tries to move past the defender's front lines, their lack of reserves make them fuck up. Your corrupt requisitions and sunken BMPs are a dead give away. And even if you manage to get some dirt poor Syrians or Chechan LARPers to team up with you, they'll abandon you the moment they realize that the other edge of the trap isn't coming because Ivan got lost in the woods.

You will never take over Ukraine, you wrench out a fake "Just as Planned" and tell yourself it's going to be okay but deep inside you feel the hopelessness creeping up like a weed, waiting to crush you under the unbearable weight.

Eventually it'll be too much to bear, you'll rally your men, make one last call to go over the line and plunge into the incoming MG42 fire just like your ancestors before you. Your countrymen will find you heartbroken but relieved they no long have to pretend that you're a competent general. They'll bury you with a headstone marked with your rank and status and every passerby for the rest of human history will know that a failed general rests here. All of your tactics will degrade into dust with the passing of the new era of warfare and all that will remain of your legacy is a short footnote in military tactics about how not to cauldron.

This is your fate. This is what you chose. There is no going back.

Ziggers don't want to know. They don't understand that the osint community (isw, militaryland, jominiw, etc) have been laying out this war for readers like the sports section in the daily newspaper. They just assume that anyone who speaks with any knowledge is just making shit up and speculating because that's how their side does it.

Man, their tanks look like garbage heaps on tracks.
That's nothing. American Shermans in WW2 probably had as much weight in spare parts, extra ammo and fuel, and crew possessions strapped on them as they carried on the inside. Take a look at some interior photos of Vietnam-era M113's.

There are just simple hurdles when it comes to immigrating that I think many don't quite consider since they're used to the open door policies done in some countries towards certain ethnic groups.
While being brown and/or mohammedan certainly helps; if haji or josé can make it across active warzones, open oceans, & scorching deserts, I'm sure healthy young Russians can hike across the border.

Of course women would unlikely be deported, because reasons (especially w/ children); but all anyone would probably have to do is repeat "Putin sucks boy-cock, Slava Ukraini!" three times, while simultaneously farting towards Moscow.

But whatever; have some crunchy artillery footage:

What difference this make? I doubt some old Czech tanks will make a substantial difference if the UAF is getting pushed back after losing Popasna.

We will see. If it hits its target, it might help. Old Warsaw Pact stuff is useful aid, as would need less training. They can be put to work nearly immediately like those Polish T-72s.

Perun talks on Sweden and Finland joining NATO, historical overview included too. Anyhow Finland made Russia eat before and with one million gun owners, who've hunted since they were children, c 300 hundred thousand of an army, close to a million if reserves are raised. Sweden too is very much an armed neutral which once had one of the world largest airforce. Those two countries alone would make Russia eat shit, during the Winter and Continuation wars eat even more shit than they've been eating in Ukraine. There are Russian rockets and other forces on the Kola peninsula, but I honestly wonder how much of it works. I wonder how Putin bros explain the strategic genius of Putin singlehandedly reviving NATO, and now having it all along his western borders. Turkey will approved once they get a good deal, and Russia turned a longtime friendly neutral in Finland into an enemy.

Finland lost that war with the USSR iirc. and the Croat president has said he'll veto Sweden's entry into NATO too. So I think acting like the expansion of NATO is a done deal is premature.

If you knew anything you’d know that the Croatian president doesn’t actually have the authority to do that. The prime minister holds the treaty power and his veto wouldn’t do shit. Go be dumb somewhere else.

They did lose the Continuation War after inflicting massive casualties on the Soviets (surely that didn't need to be said?), and joined Barbarossa in revenge. Croatia, well its Pres, is reeing over the Dayton Accord voting system in Bosnia which means Croats are in a autonomous state with Bosniak Moslems, instead of their own state like Serbs. I don't know how a fix for that can be delivered easily, but their virtue probably has an affordable price, They just make more of a hypocritical pretence that there's some high principle. And that's assuming the PM gives a shit what his non exec Pres thinks, as @Techpriest says. The Turks are honest in wanting their palms crossed with silver. The joining of NATO will take time or not happen, but Finland was once a friendly neutral, not it's hostile to Russia, and NATO aligned, and Sweden is similarly NATO aligned now. Both are regional military powers.

most of that community expected ukraine to fall within days though
hell, high ranking american generals believed it would be over within a week
In all honesty I don't think anyone expected the Russian Military to be utter incompetants to the degree displayed over the past 90 days. It's truly something for the history books. It's clear nobody in Russia realized how bad their Military had actually gotten.

I mean yes, the Ukrainians have heroically waged a stunningly effective defense. But against an even mildly competant and properly supplied and organized Army of Russia's size it should not have worked. Russia fielded an entire Army led by lolcows. ("Hmmm? Food Fuel and Ammo? Or we have everybody pack in their dress uniforms instead so we look good for the victory parade? Decisions decisions...")

The troll farm shills and their western dupes in the other thread still claim the Russian defeats around Kyiv and Sumy as genius feints and flawless redeployments. The redeployments weren't utter disasters as Ukraine didn't have the means to pursue properly, but calling them grossly incompetent is factual. I hope more Russian journoscum dox their own troops. They could get a Pulitzer for that. It appears that the initial invasion had no overall commander and if there was one, he wasn't doing much.

The real issue is that there is culture of shame surrounding the incidents, particularly in Germany. Many people just didn't talk about it. A German reporter actually wrote an autobiographical novel about her experiences in Berlin right after the war and it was immensely controversial in Germany.
Yeah, I think this holds true for a lot of places even generations later. PL but I am currently translating journals and correspondences from my family had that talks about things that happened during the war and it's so so fucked up and on one hand I feel like "people need know about what happened" but also a sense of not wanting to expose my family like that, I'm not sure they would want me to talk about it.

But according to Russia simps we're all just a bunch of brainwashed libtard NPCs who only have animosity towards Russia because the media told us to, there definitely aren't millions of people who have been effected by their actions throughout history.

I'd expect a lot more russiaboos everywhere as I think the goblins at the kremlin are preparing to announce a victory. Sergei Shoigu said the "Special Operation" is coming to an end in Lugansk (Which they occupy most of), they control Mariupol, Kherson and have their land bridge, there's also more and more talk from western politicians (former and present) to let Putin have something he can call a win so he can save face and doesn't go for a nuclear chimpout, Germany pays for gas in Rubles also.

Hell, even if Ukrainians stage a successful counter offensive and retake all ground lost to russia in this war russiaboos will still claim victory "Ukraine is destroyed, Russia is untouched, West will waste it's GDP to rebuild Ukraine" you can't win when the win/lose conditions change every time it looks like the enemy might lose the ability to attain their win or looks like it's fucked everything up.

The smartest thing Putin did with this invasion is set the goals of the "Special Operation" to be about as vague and open to interpretation as Nostradamus' prophecies allowing for the said goal post juggling and in that, russia is basically ethan ralph, as long as it exists and is able to toss shit at someone it's winning, it's "lose" condition is probably being nuked and even then russians would be saying "we nuked them back, we won" in some bunker somewhere. Discussing this is a waste of time.

Russiaboos are also kremlin's wet dream image of a perfect citizen when it comes to buying what they sell, imagine (understandably) having zero trust in western government agencies and journos but unconditionally, wholeheartedly believing literally everything that russian government and journos are saying like it's word of god, for fucks sake even the most retarded leftist NPCs have less trust in the media entities their side almost fully controls.
