You Know What Grinds My Gears? - Things that personally piss you off

cheapskate customers who don't tip. The worst was some chink who came all the way from the people's republic and not only did he not tip he asked "how much this? how much this." Till he got as cheap a meal he could then stiffed me by not tipping one cent. Hey asshole if you don't wanna tip you coulda just taken it the order to go.

How do i know he was from mainland china? Had a black bank card from CCB with Chinese on it.
Sounds more like a Canadian to me, daft bastards the lot of them.
Countries where the the 1 USD equivalent isn't in a paper note. I hate carrying excess coins. Canada the EU are big on this but when I do business in Japan it fucking sucks carrying change like a medieval traveling merchant as their first billnote is ¥1000.
Not gonna lie that actually sounds fun.

Also, people who complain about politics irl when they’re the ones that force it into the conversation. I’m tryna enjoy a crisp meatball sub and I gotta hear how Pelosi gives handies behind the dumpster?

People that mumble at you in the lowest possible voice they can and then get pissy when you don’t hear.
Related to this, I know someone who will make a comment or ask a question out of the blue and then get mad when nobody answers. Said person has been told before, but to no avail, to address someone by name if the conversation is directed to someone specific so the other person can be attentive and answer.

Unfortunately I do this too but I just gotta know if coffee is a type of bean soup or what animal you would make horse sized to ride it.

A vanilla soy latte is technically a three-bean soup and I would ride a horse-sized German shepherd in stead of any type of enlarged cat due to not wanting the spine to bob me all around and give me shaken baby syndrome.

I hate it when people buy fruit that was picked way too soon, because it teaches the supply chain that people will buy that doomed shit. If fruit is picked too soon it will never ripen, only spoil. It will never taste good and it will never develop the nutrients that make it worth eating, not to mention underripe fruits can upset your guts. I know a lot of people think 'iT's ThEiR buSiNeSs, Y u CuRr If ThEy BuY sHiT pRoDuCe?' Because most of the time, there are only green mangoes, green pineapples, green bananas, pale-seeded strawberries, kiwis as hard as bullets, peaches as hard as baseballs, plums as hard as my rubber mallet; and they all smell like absolutely nothing, which is all they will ever taste like at best. You fuckers are rewarding lazy, cheap, shitty business practices that punish all of us every time you buy a mango that you could whittle into a little squirrel.

I genuinely want to know why it's always Mexicans who buy the mangoes that could be mistaken for avocados.

I still say a giant Ram to ride in would be the coolest shit. Also it’s America, convenience over quality is pretty much the motto, that’s why outsourcing is pretty much mandatory.

I've no doubt being from the mainland he was probably a cunt, but I can't behind this 'don't tip = you're an asshole' conclusion in the US. Some people don't like paying people to do their fucking job, or giving them additional cash just for existing.

I don't know if that was your situation personally, or you went above and beyond and this guy stiffed you. The former is despicable, the latter is justified.

And yeah, there's more to the tipping culture than the surface level analysis I gave, but it's exceptional how that's even a thing in any first world country today.

Piggybacking off this. Fucking burger flippers wanting tips now. Fuck you, wagie. If I’m going out to eat at a restaurant I’ll tip the server. If I’m out at a club with friends I’ll tip the bartender. They do a hell of a lot more than just handing me a bag usually with an attitude like we’re the scum of the earth for daring to be a customer. Maybe focus on actually doing your job correctly for once and then we can talk tips

youtube doesn't let me filter out shorts on channels so i'm stuck trying to filter them myself because one channel uploads a gorillion of them

YT is still trying to compete with shorter mobile content from TicToc and Instagram, so it's prioritising shorter content in the results because they get more advertising revenue that way, They are trying to force people down that route in a echo of Google+ when they wanted to try and compete with Facebook and Twitter they will drop it eventually or side line it to it's on sub set you can filter as other than channels that only do short content anyway non of the bigger creators are sticking with it.

Blocktube is a Chromium addon that has an option to auto block shorts. It's also good for hiding videos you don't like or from channels you don't like.

Blocktube made my YT experience good again especially combined with Sponsor Block.

YouTube videos that take hours and hours to explain some bullshit that could be explained in less than two minutes.

Yea I don't want a 20 minute personal BS preamble about the correct way to crimp a wire or tie a specific knot just go "Hi I'm bob this is how you do X"

People who line up to order at bars.

It's a bar - it's designed to be the shape it is, so you don't form lines. The bartender, if they're worth a damn, will know who's next. The customers, so long as they're not shit-bags, will have a vague awareness of who's next.

It's always one dumb fuck who stands behind whoever's ordering, then a gaggle of other mouth-breathing retards will follow suit. Obviously I'll just walk past all of them and stand at the bar, but it still makes me irrationally angry.

It's not just that. I've seen claims that all sorts of professionals, many of whom get union wages and benefits, deserve tips especially around the holidays just for doing their job.

It's one thing to tip waitstaff and other workers whose wages are largely dependent on tips. It's another to tip those who make more than the average person -- mores-so with people's finances being stretched to their limits with the current whammy of inflation and rising prices for everything.

The push to tip everyone for their services makes me think of the e-beggers who always demand money and no amount given is ever enough for them.

Waitstaff get tips because they are, in essence, the caretakers of a customer. That means they don't just do the bare minimum in a robotic fashion, they need to work around requirements and deal with the good and the bad. Sure, you could argue that scanning groceries also makes you the caretaker for a customer in that moment, but you're maybe doing that for five minutes till they pay and piss off. It's hardly comparable to being with a set of customers for an hour or so, checking up on them, making sure meals are fine and dealing with messes.

I would make an exception that you might want to tip a chef that makes something specifically for you (like if you've got an allergy, and they offer to make you a fresh meal that contains none of the ingredients you're allergic to when they have every right to refuse). But if you're just flipping burgers, boxing them up, then letting the people at the front deal with it, then you probably shouldn't be asking for tips for the bare minimum.

If you're demanding tips because your wage is shit, pack up and find a new job, or give your manager shit and ask for a raise. Don't act like the customer has to make up the difference. Your boss should be paying you reasonably (assuming they aren't, if they are and you're still annoyed at your wage, then start developing new skills and find a new job).

It seems like a lot of you guys don't understand just how hard line cooks work. It's hot, it's miserable, it's thankless, the hours are long, the pay is shit, and you never get a break. I have mad respect for those guys because it is not easy. Also, it is complete bullshit that the waitress who brings you your food and refills your water is making significantly more money than the guys in the back slaving away to actually cook your meal. It should be illegal to run a restaurant where the kitchen staff doesn't at least receive a portion of the tips. It's a team effort. A customer is likely to tip well if the service was good + the food was tasty. So why is it that the kitchen staff don't see any of that money?

The waitress gets $2.15 an hour, and is expected to get up to minimum wage via the tips. The line cooks start at minimum wage and can get raises. Same with the rest of the back of the house staff.

The line cooks don't work any harder than a waitress. Dealing with nasty, bitchy customers all day with a smile on your face, no matter how shitty they are, is incredibly stressful. Cooking is easier, even with the heat of the line, because you're not putting on a performance. Or dodging children while carrying hot food.

I'm not saying they don't work hard, everyone in a restaurant does, but the fact remains that wait staff is deliberately paid a pittance for very hard, draining work, while everyone else gets paid far more. Most waitresses say their checks are usually in the pennies because of all the taxes and other government fees taken out of them.

It depends on the state, actually. Where I am, waitresses start at $15 an hour and then receive tips on top of that. The line cooks, however, are unlikely to ever get more than $20 an hour.

According to https://www.minimum-wage.org/tipped only NYC has a wait staff minimum of $10. Every other state is between $2.13 and $9 an hour. NYC is only expected to get them up to $15 via tips. Maybe your city is higher than that, and good for them, but the state doesn’t require them to start that high.

Now, this slapfight is stupid, so I'm done. If you don't like the way tips are distributed, don't tip. Just know your service will suffer.

That's a really American thing in the developed world wait staff are paid a salary and a tip is seen as a reward for good service that's been beyond what you expect.

There was an American resteraunt owner who came to the UK a few years ago to partner up with semi-rich / famous people to open up a few resteraunts with them as fronts, he tried to get around minimum wage got explained what would happen if he tried, added a £20 + a % of the order as a service fee randomly put into the bill so you'd not notice it when your paying and added to the bottom of the receipt "Tipping is not expected but it is encouraged" there was quite a bit of a minor scandal when that came to light in the local papers.

In upper / fine dining places in the past a tip to the concierge before the meal was meant to be shareable with the wait staff and it got you better portions or options like This bottle of wine we've been saving, larger portions or substitutions etc, but that fell out of favour during WW1 rationing where there was some very strict portion control in place morose than WW2

Alcoholics who give me shit for drinking a single root beer because of "all the sugar" while they get sloppy drunk on mimosas at breakfast.
Similarly it's impossible to convince some people that orange juice is just as calorie dense per fluid ounce as Coca Cola. Even if you hold the labels right up to their faces it just doesn't register because "fruit is healthy." I decided long ago that the #1 contributor to widespread obesity is that people don't know shit about fuck.
