I am not american. Either way I have close to zero knowledge about australian politics. Can someone actually explain differences between the parties in australia? I am legitimately curious. Is this all about welfare and eco programs? Because my own shitty government hands out money in welfare to retards massively and was still called far-right by western countries because my leaders larp as catholic patriots and banned abortion.

Labor are centre-left, Liberal are centre-right. Because the Liberal voter base relies heavily on wealthy inner-city folks they'll balk from going hard right and pay a lot of lip service to the social issues of the day, so most of the difference between Labor and Lib is green initiatives, carbon controls, funding for social programs, and the formation of a federal integrity commission to investigate governmental corruption.

The integrity commission is possibly one of the biggest differences this election, because the Liberals have been running on nine years of ez wins and become so mind-blowingly corrupt that we're not getting any of the benefits you'd expect to see from market liberal policies. All of our government services got cut to the bone but the savings went to the politicians and the billionaire corporations that own them, so cost of living is still skyrocketing, wages are stagnating, taxes are still up and the deficit is still increasing. We're copping all the downsides of a market-socialist economy on a barebones welfare system that can't even get disaster relief when the sky falls in on us.

We essentially had a right-wing government that ran out of other peoples money.
