With that being said, the only thing that really weirds me out isn’t the kiss itself but how much care was put into it. They straight up got one of the animators from Rise of the TMNT to make sure the teenage lesbian kiss was extra animated and fluid

Yeah that’s not the only abusive relationship in cartoons they latch onto. She-ra and Cat-ra is a match made in hell, Korrasami comes out of nowhere and comes from a place of constant fuckery of their exes, and then you also have Steven Universe. Nuanced relationships seem to be secondary and superficiality predicated on the fact that representation exists at all takes precedence. Even if the relationships have negative traits.

In Russia, since practically every company has stopped selling to them, they've decided to try and salvage the movie theater business by bringing old Soyuzmultfilm classics back for a while. The fact that they're not re-releasing newer Russian cartoons should tell you something. Paulyshorenocchio is just not gonna cut it.

It's not just old Soyuzmultfilm stuff, though; they're bringing back old Soviet comedies, war films that the current government considers too pacifist, and those few post-1991 Russian films people like. I wonder if people will want to go to the theater for something they can easily watch on YouTube, though.

Well if you look into the creators of She-ra, the main director has never been in a serious relationship. Rebecca at the time didn’t either but now she’s dating the black co-creator? I guess. And the creators of Korra were steering a sinking ship anyways so why not drum up some controversy while your fighting for views. I suspect other creators themselves have never been in a serious relationship either, so that might be a root cause as well.

Ok ok all jokes aside I'm sorry to pick at the chip and dale wound but I did find one example of the "freakish hybrid" that actually kinda works. Someone recently found the formerly "lost" Nicktoons network short bobby the lizard boy.

Why does this work when mouse fly freaks don't? Well for one its only a 3 minute short meant to play between shows cause back in the beginning Nicktoons was a commercial free network. Two unlike chip and dale 2022 the lizard boy is played entirely for comedy and isn't meant to be taken at face value.

To be fair, we can definitely blame the 00s for modern shipping culture in western animation. Teen Titans, Avatar The Last Airbender, Total Drama Island and Adventure Time were essentially the groundwork for this. All four had rabid female fans that wanted that wanted to see their couple come true be it BB and Raven, Zuko and Kitara, Duncan and Courtney, or Finn and literally any major female character.

Don't forget the abundance of fanfics and fanart in the late 90s and 00s especially deviantart they helped fuel the shipping trends. Even IMDB forums in the 00s boards of the Jonas Bros, Evangelion and Harry Potter films were littered with the stuff. I remember back around 2006 there was a thread in IMDB titled in caps 'WHO THE F--- WRITES FANFICTION OF THE JONAS BROTHERS?' That was funny too bad it wasn't archived. Possibly for the better.
