Crime Gunman at a Texas elementary school kills 19 students and two adults before being fatally shot, officials say - yeehaw

(CNN)A suspect is in custody after a shooting incident at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, left at least two dead and injured 14 people, including students, authorities said.

The Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District (UCISD) posted about an "active shooter" at Robb Elementary at 12:17 p.m. local time and said law enforcement was on site.

The suspect was taken into custody as of 1:06 p.m. local time, according to the Uvalde Police Department.
Two have died after the shooting at Robb Elementary School, a spokesperson from Uvalde Memorial Hospital told CNN.

The hospital received 13 children at their facility who were being treated for varying injuries, he said. Two children were transported to San Antonio and another is pending transfer, Tom Nordwick said.

Additionally, two patients were dead on arrival, he said. Nordwick was not sure of the ages of the two deceased. A man in his 40s was also being treated there, he said.

Nordwick did not have conditions on any of the victims.

When I was in elementary school, a guy whose wife just left him came in with a shotgun. This was during the mid-90s in a very rural town, so there weren't the bulletproof doors behind a metal detector like there are in a lot of places now, but a secretary did see him walking towards the building with the gun and had enough time to give this bizarre announcement that had our teacher shutting off the lights, blocking the door, moving down the blinds, then keeping us away from the windows. None of us had any idea what was going on bc the code in the announcement was weird and vague, about a blue moneybox being stolen, and we were just like damn, somebody took the lunch money and now they're gonna get their ass beat, bc kids are stupid. Then we started hearing this guy screaming, and BOOMBOOM. BOOMBOOM. A few minutes after that, there were sirens and cops and a fuckton of screaming men.

Nobody got hurt except the fuckwad who wanted to murder his kids and everybody else's, but I still remember everything down to the acrid smell in the hallways for days afterward.

That was back in the day, before drills and practice lockdowns, even before Columbine. We went from being dumdum kids laughing about stolen money and how seriously it was being taken, maybe curious who did it, to holding hands and praying and puking because we were scared but trying to do it as quietly as possible because you're stuck hiding in place, frozen like fawns. Now, kids know immediately what it is, even first graders hear something strange or loud in their school and immediately know that a grownup or an older kid has come and they want to kill them, maybe with bombs, maybe with guns powerful enough to tear them apart. And I kept wondering about those teachers, how many off them heard the first sounds and steeled themselves for the possibility of dying for the children they've been entrusted to, and if they mentally prepared for this day.

I heard during Sandy Hook, one of the younger kids' teachers kept saying "I love you" because she was panicking and wanted it to be the last thing her class heard if they all got shot into the hereafter.

Fuck everybody, man. Fuck the mean spirits who murder children, fuck the people who stan them on social media, fuck the friends and relatives of nutjobs who give them access to any kind of weapon but especially the most efficient ones, and fuck anyone who saw this coming and didn't do shit about it.

But whatever. I sincerely hope that y'all fags here are not getting too enmeshed in the news, that nobody you know was affected by this assholery, and that your own kids haven't been frightened by it.

IIRC mass shooters that go after small kids do it out of spite for their own sense of hopelessness for the future, so expect it to be more common.

Had an ROTC kid jump the fence at my school with one of those decommissioned M1s and a neighbor saw that and called the cops. We were in lockdown with helicopters with snipers overhead for two hours. We heard two loud bangs at one point and thought it was the shooter. We had rightfully thought it was a false alarm at first but that somewhat changed after the loud banging noises. Apparently, they were just large trash cans falling over and the echo traveled all the way through the school. Was also near a gun battle that killed 6 people so compounded I think I can sympathize

If I could fucking go back in time and change how everyone reacted to Columbine, I would. The whole thing became this weirdly romanticized shitshow and nearly ever mass shooter since then harkens back to the 'myth' of Columbine. Even shooters with much higher kill counts don't get the same level of reference. Because there was this big dumb narrative, mostly debunked now, that the two shooters were relentlessly bullied in school, and thus it was sort of the bullies fault.

They need to remake 'Bowling for Columbine' but instead lay all following shootings at the media's response to that one.
