Crime Gunman at a Texas elementary school kills 19 students and two adults before being fatally shot, officials say - yeehaw

(CNN)A suspect is in custody after a shooting incident at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, left at least two dead and injured 14 people, including students, authorities said.

The Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District (UCISD) posted about an "active shooter" at Robb Elementary at 12:17 p.m. local time and said law enforcement was on site.

The suspect was taken into custody as of 1:06 p.m. local time, according to the Uvalde Police Department.
Two have died after the shooting at Robb Elementary School, a spokesperson from Uvalde Memorial Hospital told CNN.

The hospital received 13 children at their facility who were being treated for varying injuries, he said. Two children were transported to San Antonio and another is pending transfer, Tom Nordwick said.

Additionally, two patients were dead on arrival, he said. Nordwick was not sure of the ages of the two deceased. A man in his 40s was also being treated there, he said.

Nordwick did not have conditions on any of the victims.

I remember when Sandy Hook happened, there was some talk that one easy way to prevent something like that from happening was so that people had to be buzzed into the school like an apartment building, ie nutters couldn't just waltz in and mow down children. You would have to have a reason to be let in the school building. I thought that was a perfectly reasonable suggestion but I don't know if it ever happened anywhere, seems like it may have stopped or at least impeded this shooter.

I know of several schools in my area that have this but I don't live in Schoolshootingland so I'm not sure how much it has really prevented. It gives me some peace of mind anyway.

According to the Scottsdale City Court, the case was dragged out for two years, but ultimately dismissed at the request of the city attorney. Ng end up paying about $1,000 to get rid of it in diversion fines, but ultimately it was an absolute shit sandwich of a case that should never have been brought in the first place were not for the Great Joggening of 2020.

The Tec-9 used was actually a post ban model, iirc an AB-10 and to be fair they had 30 round mags that were legally grandfathered in (Tec-9 mags used to be so ubiquitous and were literally a dime a dozen at one point).

It's also interesting to note that they had a sawn off shotgun. Surprise surprise, turns out if you're determined to kill people and yourself, the threat of punishment for committing a federal crime carrying 10 years and/or $250k means nothing.

I used to think it was an AB-10 because no barrel shroud (the thing that goes up) but I'm pretty sure in the pics it has a threaded barrel so it was actually a "mini" variant of a preban tec-9 Threaded barrel and mag well outside the pistol grip makes for two features which means ban. AB 10 just dropped the threads. In any case the guy who sold it to them got convicted for it so there's no doubt it was an illegal sale, ban or not.

Shotguns like the ones they used are legal just about everywhere in the world, maybe just difficult for some kids to get hands on.

It always fascinates me when people want to supposedly have a "genuine conversation" about these situations without wanting to discuss an important factor of the event: we have the victims, we have the murderer(s), and included in that are the means by which the murders took place. People can cover their eyes and ears, about this but the simple fact is that the tools by which these events are capable of occuing in the first place are weapons. Not saying ban all weapons, or give weapons to everybody, what I am saying is that when somebody says that bringing up guns in a discussion about a mass shooting is some kind of faux pas, well...
