Crime Gunman at a Texas elementary school kills 19 students and two adults before being fatally shot, officials say - yeehaw

(CNN)A suspect is in custody after a shooting incident at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, left at least two dead and injured 14 people, including students, authorities said.

The Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District (UCISD) posted about an "active shooter" at Robb Elementary at 12:17 p.m. local time and said law enforcement was on site.

The suspect was taken into custody as of 1:06 p.m. local time, according to the Uvalde Police Department.
Two have died after the shooting at Robb Elementary School, a spokesperson from Uvalde Memorial Hospital told CNN.

The hospital received 13 children at their facility who were being treated for varying injuries, he said. Two children were transported to San Antonio and another is pending transfer, Tom Nordwick said.

Additionally, two patients were dead on arrival, he said. Nordwick was not sure of the ages of the two deceased. A man in his 40s was also being treated there, he said.

Nordwick did not have conditions on any of the victims.

This is a developing story and will be updated.

Is this the moment where we all say ACAB?
Normally I'm defensive about saying this when it comes to random black dudes who disobeyed orders. But these were literally kids that got slaughtered because they were worried with their bulletproof vests and rifles in their trunk, to SAVE CHILDREN. Imagine if there was a fire in the school and a firefighter just sat outside because he was worried he might get singed. There's a reason you signed up for this job, and now kids are dead.

They definitely tried to hide things and spread misinformation. Like the fact that we don't know if the shooter barricaded himself or that was done by police still? It's pretty remarkable. They said yesterday that there was a school officer there that initially confronted the shooter, now its coming out that there wasn't? It's all very unclear.

Ultimately, I had mixed feelings about these tweets until I realized that one, cops will be cops and two, there were tidbits of information floating around from people on the scene dealing with more copsplaining and other protocols that made no sense in this situation.

One thing I will vehemently disagree with in these postings is the idea that cops are EVER classified as heroes; their job is to uphold the law. If they get their perp, if they arrest a scumbag pedo or if they storm a building to stop murders or destruction, THEY ARE JUST DOING THEIR JOB and these cops just did not do their jobs. They were sloppy, put additional lives at risk, caused trauma for the families involved and put more scrutiny on the police as if they needed more bad PR now. The focus will ultimately shift to departmental procedures and practices and less on the victims and how to properly prevent shit like this from happening thanks to these clowns.

"Missed" is being pretty generous in my opinion. In most of these cases they didn't just miss the signs, they actively ignored the signs and excused all of the lead-up actions. Even if the (grand)parents of the shooter didn't know he bought a rifle, the fact that he wasn't on a list for the absolute cavalcade of red flag behavior he displayed is a failure from the parental level all the way up the chain into the legal system. If I asked a thousand high schoolers to draw a school shooter and describe how he acts, the composite image and behavior set would look almost exactly like this guy. I refuse to believe nobody saw this coming.

I keep seeing people (on other sites) doing
Is this the moment where we all say ACAB?

Edit: I know they’re human but I’m really tempted at this point.
I’m not saying they didn’t give an extremely retarded performance, but they’ve been also left alone by the higher ups. I imagine they called for back up and it didn’t arrive (well… it get there too late).

Isn’t that also a low income/problematic area? That could mean no funds for police so they are poorly trained.

They wonder why gun control will never pass in places like Texas. My favorite is how they keep citing the UK as a reason for why we need gun control.
They just exchange gun attacks for knife attacks and trucks of peace there. Hardly any better, yet they think it’s an improvement because “at least it’s not guns!”

I honestly never thought I’d agree with John Oliver if the performance of the police was so retarded.

Here’s what he said about police reform.
One small example of this is Camden, New Jersey, which 10 years ago was pleased by a deeply troubled corruption ridden force, but in 2013 they dissolved their City Police Force entirely, with officers having to reapply for their jobs. And in doing that, they’ve been able to meaningfully shift the culture, while also instituting policy changes that relate to both a drop in excessive force complaints and some rebuilding of community trust.

The difference is that just because you want to purchase a firearm doesn't mean you're going to kill someone. Abortion? Well, you can argue semantics about where it stops being "a clump of cells" and starts being a human being, but you're still confirmed to be ending a life.

Besides I've already seen all that bullshit this person's talking about and I am un-fucking-moved. Besides, I don't believe that most states do that kind of shit on abortion. Also, if you don't want to get pregnant, you can choose not to have sex.

Some of the criticism is kind of dumb though. I can't really get mad at cops not allowing fat unprotected parents to run into an active shooter situation, even if they have to handcuff or taze them. But then I do need them to explain why they weren't doing more.

Today, a progressive friend of mine called me, and told me all about this. To my surprise, she went on a great deal about how the cops basically let this shit happen. This was then followed by her being thankful she lived in a stand your ground state.

This incident will not be as exploitable as certain groups were hoping.
