I agree DSP loves his lifestyle but disagree that he is not unhappy. I also think people are overthinking why he's unhappy. It comes down stability.

I think he loves his gouty life of gin and gacha-- even the begging and lording over the paypigs-- but is aware enough to know that it is in a precarious position which is what makes him unhappy. Not in regards to his retirement or even how he'll be streaming to the same audience, supported by the same 3-5 whales 5 years from now, but he's anxious because the stability of today's pulls is threatened.

Let me translate that for a normal person: Imagine if you literally didn't know where your next meal was coming from and relied on tips from Internet people to buy that next meal. Would that make you anxious and would you be happy? But! You say, DSP gets tons of money in many different ways! My guess is, in having dealt with a person like DSP, unless a bill is due on the day he gets money the money goes towards his addiction(s).

My point is that money may not buy happiness but it does buy security and freedom from anxiety. DSP lives above his means while having no savings with a precarious and unstable income and he has no skills, professional, social, or otherwise. Any illusion that he is happy is second-hand pignosis that he has applied to himself and has rubbed off on you.

You can do the things you love and still be unhappy, its called depression and signs of it are the same no matter who you are. If just doing the things you liked made people happy then no one would ever commit suicide. Also its pretty ironic how you think recognizing that he is unhappy is the cope when everything dsp says about himself is an actual coping mechanism. He streams in a dingy small room but its a "business", he is too much of a pussy to have a kid so in stead a cat is his "family", he couldn't satisfy his younger gf(physically or emotionally) so his less attractive horse downgrade is his "soulmate". His entire life and the way he carries himself is him coping with his shortcomings as a person.

Lets look at phils behavior
No interest in having sex - proof from his past relationship and lets be real no one is hopping into bed with kat besides tyrone
Unhealthy addictions - gatcha, alcohol, video games, fast food
Isolation - no friends, no desire to have friends, spends most of his time in one room
Feelings of hopelessness - do I even need to say? Sky is falling if he doesn't reach tip goals which is a manipulation tactic for getting more tips but the point is he does worry about it

Those are all textbook examples of obvious signs of depression. Now I'm just a lowly EMT but I'm pretty sure any doctor or therapist would say that how dsp acts isn't the normal behavior of someone who is happy.

Also, low testosterone can generate depression. I have no doubt his T levels are in the toilet. If he builds up his exercise routine beyond walking, we might start seeing changes in his behavior as his brain chemistry adjusts to increased levels of test, but X to doubt.

I dunno if anyone mentioned but every so often Phil rants about how happy he is with his wife and where he's living like some kinda massive cope. I don't feel people who are genuinely happy have to go out of their way to state it while sounding so desperate.

His little day off segments even reek of emptiness, all about food and windows shopping. He has nothing in common with his wife so he can never talk about anything much else they did together bar some shitty appointment. That is some depressing shit.

EDIT: I wanted to state I don't think Phil is depressed just unhappy, I think due to his mental state he can't comprehend depression. He reminds me of videos where people break into hoarder houses and you see animals living in filth, they aren't depressed but they are unhappy. They don't quite have the intelligence to be depressed.

Of course he doesn't, that would require caring about what he puts out and taking time away from his precious sweat muscle man gacha. I mean, even when he supposedly does multiple takes for a video (like the recent begging video), he still uploaded one where he made the the mistake he hoped to not make.

So what does that that say when Phil says "people that deny history are doomed to repeat it" when in regards to him denying that he lied about Project 7, lied about his marriage to Kat, lied about Jasper, lied about...

You know what? Shut the fuck up, Phil.

You see, he had to lie about kaht and Jasper to protect his family. He had no other choice.

I mean he's been caught in so many lies and it's obvious that no-one really believes them. It really needs to be stressed that at this point, no-one's tipping him because they believe he's struggling. It's all to gain recognition outside of him like the leaderboard or us.

Re: Phil's happiness (or not). My own opinion is that Phil is contented because he's a creature of strong habit and is not currently being forced to change any of them, but I'm not sure I'd use "happy" to describe him. If he was happy, he would be able to enjoy himself, he wouldn't drink to oblivion most nights, etc. Ultimately, though, I don't much care. He's where he is of his own accord.

mmm. saw some complaints about how much this subforum sucks dick because everything is in the main thread, which i don't exactly disagree with.

would it be reasonable to start making threads for each individual playthrough he does to organize that better? only problem with that is then i don't know what the point of the main thread would be.

i just do think it's vaguely annoying that everything gets lost here like tears in the shower. for example, if i hadn't been here on that day i legit would've never known phil played outerwilds. never saw his vids, don't check his twitter and it was only posted about like, 6 times.

the divinity thread worked out well, sifu thread may've done good too. just food for thought, i suppose.

The mods do a great job keeping up with the highlight system, that’s how I keep up after days/weeks without reading.
